Re: The Roughing the QB penalty on Hicks
You are right Halo but a slide is defined by QB leading with his feet. If I recall he lead more with the body like diving forward trying to get the extra yardage. He was still moving when he got hit. If he had stopped moving and basically what they call 'giving up' on the play then it would have been hitting a defensiveness player.
Got my attention though on that play as well. |

Re: The Roughing the QB penalty on Hicks
On that play, Drew DID lead with his feet, it was a "textbook" perfect example of a slide and giving up on the play, and the defender pounded him anyway. No flag.
In the Dome, it would have been a penalty. No doubt in my mind. |
Re: The Roughing the QB penalty on Hicks
Officiating crews are so inconsistent from 1 to the next that teams spend more time in film study planning around certain officials and crews.
Its so bad to a point it can completely throw everything off, which it has in the past many years, hence why Seattle won a SB aside from paying Peyton Manning off. |
Re: The Roughing the QB penalty on Hicks
The defender didn't "pound" Drew. It was a bang-bang play and the defender clearly let up while still making contact. It wasn't a penalty.
