Re: Do we bring Champ back??
We can argue all day about bailey being old and not being able to beat out prob and white. What you can't argue is that those guys look like deers in headlights when a ball is thrown in their direction (excluding dixon as I haven't seen him play much).
They don't try to grab the receivers arms and rake through like most db's are taught. They don't try to swat the ball away. They don't try to intercept the pass. Sometimes they don't even try to locate the ball. Their only goal appears to be "just let him catch it and make the tackle". Even at bailey's advanced age he knows what to do when the ball is in the air. Whether his body is capable of reacting is another thing but I'd rather watch an old savy guy try to make plays then a guy that doesn't know how to. As matter of fact, watch the replay of that game and look at Atlanta's DB's. I know they got burnt a lot and left our guys open as well but when they were in the position to make plays on the ball they did. They didn't just look at the guy catch it and try to make the safe tackle Didn't mean to rant but oh well...on to the next one I guess. |

No. We don't bring him back. Him or Greer. Just my two cents.

Re: Do we bring Champ back??
That's surprising. The guy that was out for almost the entire season won the position because he was the healthier one? Where did you hear that?

Re: Do we bring Champ back??
We all saw it. In the final preseason game teams never play their starters for any length of time, yet both Champ Bailey and Patrick Robinson were both playing in this game extensively because the coaches still weren't sure. If you remember Patrick got burned repeatedly by The Ravens backup QB and WR, while Champ was tested deep twice but broke up both passes. He then left the field after re-aggravating his apparent foot injury. Thats when the decision was made to cut Champ, for fear of injury. SJB was drafted to learn this year and take over as #2 Corner next season. Thats why we haven't heard a mention about contract talks with P.Robinson and why Champ was signed to a 2 yr deal, with both years contingent on him making the team each season.

Re: Do we bring Champ back??
Yeah I do remember P Robinson looked pretty bad in that game. But I've got to believe that the coaching staff either thought Robinson's overall body of work this offseason was better than Champs. Or you might be right, they may have decided it was better to keep Dixon over Champ, if they felt there was a good chance Champ would spend most of the season injured.

Re: Do we bring Champ back??
Also, its probably 50/50 they bring him back for depth. Now that his salary won't be guaranteed it would be pretty cheap to add him to the squad.
I don't think he replaces anyone at CB, but his leadership and CB depth is probably needed. |

Re: Do we bring Champ back??
Most DB's are going to struggle against that Atlanta group, especially when they play like that.

Re: Do we bring Champ back??
I didn't get to see the game, but from what I've read here, I don't think we necessarily need to change personnel so much as game plan.
Outside of Richard Sherman and a few others, I don't see anyone covering Julio and Roddy, straight up when they get clean off the line. Why were we not jamming them at the line and pressing them the entire way through their routes? Why are we not learning anything from Seattle and playing soft as heck? I understand that our coaches are brilliant and want to outsmart everyone with schemes. I like to do the same thing when I box. But sometimes you just need to lace up the gloves nice and tight, wade in, and punch someone in the mouth. I don't get it. Can someone help me out? |
