When scanning the defensive rankings for the New Orleans Saints, one will see a lot of numbers in the high 20s and low 30s, which is numerical code for this:
The Saints defense has been one of the league's major flops after two weeks. New Orleans came into 2014 as a Super Bowl pick by many, and not just because of Drew Brees and the offense. This was to be the year that the Saints took their defense to a higher level, perhaps becoming one of the best units in the league. So far, it's been anything but. Here are the Saints rankings 30th in total defense 32nd against the pass 29th in yards per play 29th in sacks per pass play 27th in third-down efficiency 31st in points per game. The D has to get it going. During pre-season they looked great, what has happened to them. The article is dead on about our lb.'s being slow, they are.

Re: After further Review: Examining why the Saints defense stinks
Even when we do get pressure of the QB we still allow him to escape the pocket, the D line is not working together
Akiem hicks needs to get a bigger push upfront so the QB cannot step up or escape through the line, that in turn will let junior and Cam get to him from the outside. |

Like I said earlier, 2 weeks in a row our defense has had the opposing offense pinned inside their own 10 yard line and 2 weeks in a row they have drove the length of the field for a score We shouldn't have to score 30 points a game to win every week, our defense should be able to hold teams under 20 points - especially a team that is missing their 3 best offensive players. |

Re: After further Review: Examining why the Saints defense stinks
Over the last decade I've seen some pretty bizarre debates, yet I can't think of a single one more absurd than claiming our offense is just as much to blame as our defense for our 0-2 record right now.
Maybe the one about the Punter being THE most important player on on a defense, but other than that I'm just at a loss to remember one as absurd as this. I have to wonder if some of you guys are just jerking the chains. |
