Brees is going to restructure along the same lines as Brady did a few years back and get more guaranteed money over a longer period ... just like Brady so famously did. No, we lost key leaders from our locker room because they were old and could no longer produce. Does that create a leadership vacuum? Hell yes it does. But it has absolutely nothing to do with an extremely fair contract awarded to Drew Brees. |

Re: Let Us All Just Face the Facts
Not so much that the offense is getting old but the same old stubbornness to come out throwing to start a game when we have been running the ball well. Again the first 7 plays called against SF were pass plays and the 3rd play was an INT that set up a TD. You can't start a game with consecutive 3 and outs.

Look at Arizona, Detroit, and even Buffalo. Also the Eagles rebuilt in about a year after they fired Reid. Then there are the Jacksonville and the Raiders of the league that never seem to do squat in spite of high draft picks.
It all starts with a good FO and an owner willing to spend what it takes. We have both. |

We went all-in to win now. Where's the rebuilding money going to come from?

Re: Let Us All Just Face the Facts
Dude. This is dumb. If we make the playoffs we have a shot. This team isn't THAT bad. It's certainly not worse than either one of those Giants teams that won Super Bowls the last few years. Those teams were hot garbage, snuck into the playoffs in a bad division and won the whole stupid thing. If they can do it the Saints surely can.

Re: Let Us All Just Face the Facts
I never understood the Saints fans who constantly want to jump up every twenty minutes and declare
"that's it, the window is closed." As if the whole world isn't waiting for it to happen? The folks who are always going on about the window closing -- I have to ask, what else do you people do the rest of the time? Do you sit around in hospitals, and wait for them to stop pounding on the chest, and declare the patient is dead, so you can jump in with your watch and declare the time of death? Do you stay up all night waiting for the last election results, so you can run past the winner's podium and go declare who is the loser? Do you sit around at airports and wait for people who missed their planes, so you can run up to them and taunt them about it? What kind of person lives day to day, waiting for "the window to close" so they can jump up and be the first one to announce it? I just don't understand the mentality of it. I don't understand the psychology of it. The window is NOT closed, and when the day eventually comes and it finally IS closed, trust me, EVERYONE AND THEIR GRANDMOTHER WILL KNOW IT. There will come a Sunday, something will happen, it will be universal, and we will know it and it will be so intuitively obvious to every living soul, that WE WON'T NEED ANYONE TO TELL US. So the very fact that someone actually wants to DEBATE that the window is closed, shows me that it clearly isn't. I've noticed over the years that some Saints fans act like winning is all a crazy dream, and they subconsciously can't wait to wake up from it and go back to losing and being miserable again. Well, that's not reality, and that's not going to happen for a while yet. There are A LOT of things still left to fall apart, implode or turn sour, before the window actually closes. WE ARE FIRST IN THE DIVISION. There is plenty of rebuilding and reloading already going on, and plenty more that needs to happen still. After winning 19 or twenty-something games in a row (not counting 2012), we were actually waaaay overdue for a home loss under Sean Payton. Not the end of the world. |

Re: Let Us All Just Face the Facts
In my opinion the Linebacker position is our Achilles Heel along with a true leader on Defense that hold players accountable. I don't see rebuilding didn't we just trade off a bunch of old veterans.
