This is my dream scenario.....I really want to win out the next three games, host the 1st round of playoffs at home and then bring home the Lombardi. Unfortunately, that is a pipe dream.(yeah, yeah, yeah I know "put down the pipe".
So, the question for coach is. Do I try to win out and roll with the starters or do I evaluate every player on the roster after getting plenty of game tape and playing time to grow? Either decision isn't going to endear him to the fans if the losing continues. Give P Rob and White time to shine or go down fighting. At least then we may have a better understanding of their abilities. He could try White at Safety and see how that develops. Find out what our players can and can't do......then make cuts accordingly over the off season. Possibly even this season. It's a stretch I know but if Payton could identify several players that are definitely not coming back maybe he could cut them now.......raid the PS from some more teams like he did to keep our secondary on life support systems later this season. I'm sure the Saints have their eyes on several more prospects in an emergency contingency plan. The only problem that I might foresee is do we have the money left to sign a few new faces? I also wonder if Der Kommisar will allow us to raid other teams PS this late in the season if it's not to replace an injured player? There may be a provision prohibiting that from happening. If we can only restock our roster because of IR then who will develop a hang nail? |

Yes, try that. Try everyone who has played or could play ILB. We're terrible there. Why haven't the coaches tried something other than starting Hawthorne and hoping? Or Humber whenever Hawthorne's hurt? Gee wiz, do something different already.

Cut Hicks? No way! Won't bother wasting time defending him. Just an obvious keeper for now. Cut Corey White? Only a young 5th round draft pick. Make a backup nickel instead. Cut young Cadet? Only if we need the roster spot for a good defensive player. Wonder if ILB Lofton should go, too. Hope we following everyone one of your "adds." |
