this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; In my own humble opinion I think Kitna, Warner, and Brees would be better for this team than Brooks. Especially if we get a new OC that installs a new system. Even as bad as our O-line is it\'s still ...

Then if Smoot were available, pick him up for the other side, and cut Thomas, Ambrose and Craft loose too. |

i think it has to be a offensive tackle. victor riley may not be coming back and spencer folau got manhandled against simeon rice. probably porkchop womack from seattle is an option. either that or we will draft a tackle. linebacker is a need also if we lose sedrick hodge. but this year isnt a great FA list. not nearly as many starters in this list as there was last year.

I like Witherspoon from Carolina...
Freddie Jones from Arizona... Kenoy Kenndey from Denver I can\'t really see us getting an Orlando Pace kinda guy for the O line...he would just want too much I fear... Witherspoon..yeah..that\'s who looks good to me so far [Edited on 11/1/2005 by shadowdrinker] |

Make a list of 5 or 6 \"difference makers\" and go after them full speed.
Target LT, DT, LB, RT, OG. Fill in the gaps with B-list FA\'s, like Craft, Young, Stecker etc. Plan your draft after you see who you were or weren\'t able to sign. DO NOT draft someone at a position of strength like DE or WR or starting RB (a good 3rd/4th round back-up would be nice though in case Mcfat-boy comes into camp outta shape again) |

I read most of these threads and alot of the players you mention are not reasonable signings like Walter Jones and Orlando Pace, their own team can\'t sign them because they want $10M a year that\'s why they keep getting the franchise tag put on them. Line Backers most of them are only as good as the DL\' s that are in front of them if your DL isn\'t effective than your LB\'s will be blocked and won\'t be able to run free and make tackles. So the first thing is to sure up the middle of the DL(if you don\'t believe me look at Urlacher) and second make sure that they will work in the system that they are using. None of the QB\'s that are listed would be an improvement over what we have so why just give away money because if we trade Brooks we take the hit of his bonus, part of his salary, and then we still have to sign someone so unless someone can come up with a better QB and not some riduclous trade for one I don\'t see that position changing much. I really would like Howard to be resigned because I think that he is the most valuable and versitle person that we have on the DL. I think is\'t too early to say who will be free agents I think that a lot of oter good players will be released for cap reasons so we will see.

With regard to Brooks. Your analysis of his salary situation may be correct, however, Brooks has shot himself in the foot with all of his talk about \"greatness\" etc. While getting someone like Kitna or Maddox, may not be a physical upgrade, it very well may be an emotional one for the TEAM. Watching Brooks over the past 4 years has made one thing glaringly clear. He wants only what is good for him. He is immature, selfish, and self absorbed. Bringing in a TEAM player with fewer tools, but a better attitude may catalyze the Offense into what it has been touted it can be. |

Likewise, why do you want to go to the ball control offense (I think you said it in another thread)? I\'m not so sure this team can be the Rams or Colts anymore, but it could definitely be the Chargers or Steelers. Maybe it\'s just semantics, but for me, ball control means keep it on the ground, and beat teams 10-7. We can\'t do that - we\'ll have to score at least 20 points a game to win, and probably 25. |

I\'ve complained about not going deep all year. You must be thinking of someone else. Ball control? Not me. I am curious, some people have implied AB is so bad that just about anyone would be better. Do you really think Warner, who would be awfully cheap, would be worse than AB? |
