“First, start with tipping our hats to Atlanta. I told our players there were some good things. I thought defensively we did a lot of good things but it came with a little bit of a more low scoring game, but give them credit; they made enough plays, obviously, to get the win. It’s disappointing at this stage of the season with what was at stake. (It's a) tough loss and there is that sting to it with the finality and yet, we didn't play near as well as we needed to get the win.”

(on the replay of Jimmy Graham at the goal line) “It is something we can’t control. It is the same look that they have though, know that. What we were looking at is a television angle; there is only one angle that matters. The others didn’t matter. Did I think it was a score? Yes.”

(on if at worst he thought it was forward progress with a stop) "I didn’t look at it at worst, the one look we had as they continued to show it looked pretty clear, and yet, it is what it is. They go back to New York now with that and it’s disappointing.”

(on the offense) “We struggled with some protections. We got hit too much. We saw a lot of man-to-man, some zone coverage, a lot of four- and five-man rush, and they did a good job with penetration. We talked about this earlier in the week; I thought they affected the QB more than we did. If you look at the sack numbers, now part of that can be because of coverage, but that was one thing we thought was going to be important.”

(on ending it on a potential game-winning drive) “The defense did a good job, we got the ball back and went into our hurry up mode and they end up making a play on a pass that put them in good position to get a field goal. That is the hard part about it, the way it ends.”

What's he gonna say?

"This season was a total failure. Top to bottom of the organization there was no redeeming aspect. In some cultures this kind of effort would be indicative of massive fraud and corruption. Don't expect things to change. Our criminal mismanagement of the salary cap has condemned this franchise to at least 4 more years of futility. Be thankful that your self image is not dependent on a successful professional football team."

did payton lose his magic ? or we just get fooled with some of the players
we have signed to huge contracts, were they injuries more telling than got told. why jimmy and colston went thru memory lapse's on how to catch a pass. what the hell going on down there in new Orleans, how many of us has loss just a hint of faith in coach payton. i'm saying he was a great coach till now. great coaches right the ship along the way. our offense shined when brees was never touched or hurried. hes a struggling QB as average as they come now. can he ever get back? not with that line, Atlanta can pick people off the street to handle one of the most payed defenses in the nfl. talk to us coach, what happen?

thats the fact jack!!!!!

I want him to state the truth. We were awful all year and in the off season we will perform an autopsy of the 2014 season making decisions that may be difficult but will ultimately restore the expectations of the fans, organization & the team.

Re: Sean Payton discusses the loss to the Atlanta Falcons

As bad as this team looked at times this season, it was razor thin close to being 10-5 right now. A few breaks, less bad calls by refs, and better time management and we would be a playoff favorite. Thats the way it goes in the NFL. Some years you get the calls and breaks and other years you bang your head on the wall in frustration. Given the injuries the team had to deal with and assuming these players return in 2015, I still see them being a contender with a few additions on the OL and LB positions. Just a few tweaks and more luck next year.

I am not sure what to think. Does he believe we had a poor season but has to paint a picture (of less discontent) or does he believe we just had a few things to sort?
