Re: Lofton being shopped?
Lofton is a 2 down LB in 3 down clothing.
I defended his tackle total but that may have been more due to sheer number of snaps. He missed A LOT of tackles last year.... |

Re: Lofton being shopped?
We have the crappiest defense in the league. There isn't a player on this defense that should feel safe.

Third and most importantly, the salary cap has nothing to do with what a team spends in a single year on payroll. Do you know what restructuring contracts entails? Apparently not, but let me break it down for you. In many restructures a player's compensation will be converted to a signing bonus. When this occurs the player is paid a lump sum up front while the CAP HIT is spread out over the life of the contract. This means by performing multiple restructures for multiple players you can far exceed the salary cap spending limit on a year by year basis. However, this can cost the owner of the team millions of dollars that might not be viable for a number of reasons. Perhaps you are one of these falcon fans that gets amazed by Loomis signing players and keeping players on the payroll year after year. The litigation COULD (notice I said could, as in possibly) be a reason why no restructuring is taking place. Edit: Benson's assets relating to the team are frozen... Re: Lofton being shopped?
My guess would be with Hawthorn not being released and Lofton getting shopped we may be finally converting to a 3-4 D.

Also a lot was said about the lack of veteran leadership last year and now dumping PT and Lofton, two of the leaders we have left. Might as well dump Colston and Evans as long as we're gutting any semblance of Veteran presence. |
