The litigation Benson is going through is costing him too much. Loomis was free in the past to spend what he wanted but the reluctance to restructure contracts this year tells me there are financial issues. |

Re: Lofton being shopped?
I doubt the cost of that litigation amounts to anything more than the cost of a couple UDFA's.

Re: Lofton being shopped?
That's absurd. Did you see the Picayune today? Benson is worth $1.9 BILLION per Forbes magazine. That's billion, with a "B." The money Benson spends on litigation is completely unrelated to the Saints payroll. Besides, the Saints payroll is capped by the league anyway....he can only spend so much, no matter what. That's called a "salary cap" -- ever heard the term? Are you aware the lawsuit is only about 60% of the Saints, which are in the trust. You don't know much about finance, if you think it is affecting Loomis and the actual team in any way. The 2015 money is set and capped and already accounted for, no matter what happens in court.

First, you do realize the 1.9 billion Benson is worth is derived from his total assets right? Are you dumb enough to think he has 1.9 billion liquidated to spend at his will? Secondly, litigation cost an enormous amount of money, but you don't seem to understand they could have frozen portions of his assets that are in dispute. Third and most importantly, the salary cap has nothing to do with what a team spends in a single year on payroll. Do you know what restructuring contracts entails? Apparently not, but let me break it down for you. In many restructures a player's compensation will be converted to a signing bonus. When this occurs the player is paid a lump sum up front while the CAP HIT is spread out over the life of the contract. This means by performing multiple restructures for multiple players you can far exceed the salary cap spending limit on a year by year basis. However, this can cost the owner of the team millions of dollars that might not be viable for a number of reasons. Perhaps you are one of these falcon fans that gets amazed by Loomis signing players and keeping players on the payroll year after year. The litigation COULD (notice I said could, as in possibly) be a reason why no restructuring is taking place. Edit: Benson's assets relating to the team are frozen...
