Re: 2015 New Orleans Saints: Roster Outlook
A couple of notes:
RB, FB, and TE will have a big affect on one another; if we only deem 4 RB roster, we're likely to keep two FB, for power rushing depth... Lorig, because of his size, can also line up as a HB, as a TE; so we'd only need to keep Ben Watson and Josh Hill; Tabb and Charles look like camp bodies, unless they do something to stand out... Dixon showed some terrific moments along with some rookie mistakes; Dixon, along with the two drafted rookies makes it clear SJB as got to do it now, not likely though... I've thought Galette was gone for some time, and the recent events reinforced that... Also, should Jalen Saunders show some impact as a slot receiver, i.e. Lance Moore role, his playmaking in the punt return game should warrant awarding him a roster spot as well; he's done more with it than anyone and I'm not crazy about having C.J. Spiller doing that role full-time... |
Re: 2015 New Orleans Saints: Roster Outlook
"IF", Stanley Jean Baptiste were to make this squad, it will require a position change of one of two players and how well another player performs...
Damian Swann was also viewed as converting to a NFL safety... Really thought Brian Dixon played well; especially as a UDRFA; he will have to win his roster spot... Pierre Warren showed what range could be gained by playing a player with his size; he stood out with some interceptions, but Corey White had some big interceptions and is no longer with the team... (Note: As a player gets taller, generally, his wingspan does as well; a guy doesn't just gain two inches of reach because of his height, it could be greater with the longer arms) Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda - Should Pierre Warren falter and Damian Swann show he's got the footwork to stay at CB, Jean-Baptiste could step up and move to and show enough as a Strong Safety (i.e. Kam Chancellor) whereby he could contribute in the kicking game and develop for another season... Why mention this? I don't see Kenny Vaccaro with this team long term under the present regime... Vaccaro's and Keenan Lewis' continued dissention over Saints moves (i.e. Galette's release) is going to get them shipped off... |
Re: 2015 New Orleans Saints: Roster Outlook
Vaccaro never said anything about the team's moves. Lewis was rewarded with a new contract when he spoke out... Don't know where you're going with that JP.

LLB (2) Anthony Spencer (FA), Davis Tull (R5, #148) Kasim Edebali, WLB (2) David Hawthorne, Stephone Anthony (R1, #31) MLB (2) Dannell Ellerbe (via Trade) , Ramon Humber SLB (2) Parys Haralson, Hau'oli Kikaha (R2, #44) 2016 LLB - Davis Tull????? WLB Stephone Anthony MLB Dannell Ellerbe - did we get the steeler or dolphin version? SLB - Hau'oli Kikaha IR concerns If "sub-rusher." step up that would be huge. @LLB Ronald Powell ????? Kasim Edebali ????? Davis Tull appears to be a huge key in what happens to the saints in 2016. can he be that LLB we are looking for? If not the 2016 nfl draft. OSU might have the answer and I hate OSU with a passion. But talent is there Josh Perry OLB Ohio St great booby prize RLB - I like this kid! He just might get over looked a bit and slip in the draft due to the team he is on and not being overly flashy but he is motor guy, high IQ, that does all the small things that jump out on tape at you but does not fill the stats page. He still does get his stats just not enough of the flashy ones. He does need a bridal at times to slow him down. Then there is the can he stay healthy player Darron Lee, Ohio State Prototypical 3 down LLB Here is my athletic LB freak of the draft IMO. Rush, sets the edge, speed to chase RB down and pass coverage skills. This kid is the total package. |

Re: 2015 New Orleans Saints: Roster Outlook
Now this was an interesting signing, anybody remember the latter new hopeful Saint's name?
Saints officially release Galette, add Kevin Brock, Cole Manhart Jeremy Warnemuende 29 July 2015 It was simply a matter of formality, but the Saints officially released outside linebacker Junior Galette on Monday. Also waiving center Mike Brewster with an injury designation, New Orleans signed tight end Kevin Brock and guard Cole Manhart to fill out the 90-man roster... Brock most recently played for the Bengals...Brock has been on the active roster or practice squads of nine different teams. The Saints had shown interest in another former Bengals tight end, Jermaine Gresham, this offseason, but he recently agreed to a one-year deal with the Cardinals. Meanwhile, Manhart was signed by the Eagles as an undrafted free agent in May before being released at the end of June. A center in college at Division II Nebraska-Kearney, the 6-foot-6, 310-pound Manhart is expected to be a guard in the NFL... ...The Saints now have a full roster for training camp at the Greenbrier resort in White Sulphur Springs, W.V. Players report to camp Wednesday, with the first practice coming Thursday. Source: Saints officially release Galette, add Kevin Brock, Cole Manhart |

Re: 2015 New Orleans Saints: Roster Outlook
Young defensive linemen
Kevin Williams and John Jenkins look to be the starters for now. Of course, Akiem Hicks and Cam Jordan as well. But there’s been a lot to like from younger players such as Kasim Edebali and Bobby Richardson. Edebali looks improved along the edge, while Richardson has performed well at tackle and end. Source: New Orleans Saints training camp: 5 positives through 5 days of practice | NOLA.com |
Re: 2015 New Orleans Saints: Roster Outlook
Terron Armstead
The third-year left tackle has been dominant in individual drills and the team portions of practices. His large frame (6-5, 305) and athleticism has given defenders fits. Armstead hasn’t given an inch nearly all camp. He left practice with an unspecified injury Monday, though. Source: New Orleans Saints training camp: 5 positives through 5 days of practice | NOLA.com |
Re: 2015 New Orleans Saints: Roster Outlook
Stephone Anthony
The injury to Dannell Ellerbe pushed Anthony into the starting lineup sooner, but it was only a matter of time for the middle linebacker. Defensive coordinator Rob Ryan said the best thing about the Saints putting on the pads was that everyone in attendance could hear Anthony, who brings a pop whenever he tackles a ball carrier. Source: New Orleans Saints training camp: 5 positives through 5 days of practice | NOLA.com |
Re: 2015 New Orleans Saints: Roster Outlook
Brandon Coleman
A year ago, he would have been in the five negatives category. Those days seem to be over. The 6-foot-6 wide receiver is quickly becoming a favorite target for Saints quarterbacks. Plus we caught a glimpse Monday of what we will probably see in the regular season with Coleman, Brandin Cooks and Marques Colston as the main wideouts. Source: New Orleans Saints training camp: 5 positives through 5 days of practice | NOLA.com |
Re: 2015 New Orleans Saints: Roster Outlook
Akiem Hicks
The leaner, healthier Saints defensive lineman has looked great through five days after missing just about all of the early summer workouts in Metairie. He’s been a force in individual drills and a force in team drills, using his strength to bully through the offensive line for sacks.
