Ran straight into the trash more than any other of our LBs vs the run. Sucks vs the run worse than Lofton, sucks vs the pass. 2nd string and 3rd string if we draft LBs well. |

He's middle of the pack for starting lb's. He not great, but he's nowhere as horrible as you claim

Glad he took a pay cut instead of being cut. I'm sure he was on the chopping block.

Re: Hawthorne takes pay cut to stay
We can't leave the position completely empty and this does not guarantee he will be the starter this season. I still hope the 'plan' is to DRAFT and sign a few linebackers

Re: Hawthorne takes pay cut to stay
This is one of those cases where there truly is a pay cut. Hawthorne was due a $2.5M roster bonus. He was obviously told he would be released unless he agreed to restructure. While his annual salary was reduced, the team saved the $2.5M in roster bonus, but did give Hawthorne a $1.5M restructuring Bonus ($750K in 2015 and $750K in 2016) to ease the pain a bit.

Re: Hawthorne takes pay cut to stay
Good to have the veteran still around.
I think he will be good for the field and the locker room. 4 million down to 1.1 is huge, but if the market isn't much better, he made a good choice. Lofton is outside looking in, and may end up where Hawthorne is right now (if that). Making phone calls, smiling a lot and shaking hands can get old quick. He can still play ball and pay the rent. Good spot to be in when the spots are so few. |

Re: Hawthorne takes pay cut to stay
I just read that a player can't just agree to take less money unless he his told he will be cut if he doesn't. Can somebody confirm this?
