We have been just about all of a 4-3 set for many years. I would like to see( drafting, FA brought in) to run a true 3-4 D. We have no identity on the D. To many sqare pegs trying to fit in round holes. This has caused pi$$ poor play out of our D. Some players just don't fit certain sets.

Re: David Hawthorne

wasn't impressed by Hawthorne last year. Thought for sure he'd be gone, but I guess with the pay cut it makes sense to them.

Re: David Hawthorne

Ellerbe will be the starting ILB, and I strongly believe we are going to draft a ILB in the 1st or 2nd round. It is very possible Hawthorne will be nothing more than a backup. If that is true having a backup like Hawthorne would be a good thing. Hawthorne actually played far better than Lofton and Humber, not saying much but it's true.

Humber probably, but that's a gross inaccuracy about Lofton. Lofton had nearly twice as many tackles. Lofton is bad in pass coverage and Hawthorne is a little better there. I am hoping you are right about Ellerbe and us drafting a starter because I can't see Hawthorne starting again.

Lofton was the worst ILB in the NFL last year; not my assumption, that's according to PFF.

Hawthorne was the best ILB we had.

Humber only rated slightly better than Lofton, but not by much.

Do you have a link that shows PFF rated Lofton 60 out of 60 in the ILB?

https://www.profootballfocus.com/blo...curtis-lofton/

Because the way I read this, he was 56 out of 60, which I admit isn't that great and probably stems from his liability in the passing game and 22 missed tackles, but he did have 145 tackles so he was in on a lot of plays.

Now I am not defending Lofton. I am glad he is moving on, because he didn't seem smart enough to play the position the way RR was trying to run things. What I am saying is Hawthorne is just as bad as Lofton and both should be out. Also, strangely enough since you brought up PFF, they rate Hawthorne as an OLB so my statement that Hawthorne is the worst ILB may hold true since he doesn't even rate at the position.

In a 4-3 set Lofton was MLB and Hawthorn OLB, JR was was a DE. Hawthorn has been cast wrong since he has been on this D.

Re: David Hawthorne

We draft Stephone Anthony with our 31st pick and the Ellerbe/Anthony duo becomes one of the best in the league! Fingers crossed at least.

Re: David Hawthorne

Hawethorne came on in the end of the season. In the last couple games he actually looked great.
