this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Looks like we went with a lot of "character" picks. Was there any truth that Graham was not a good locker room team mate ?...

Re: Bottom Line: Jimmy Graham for Max Unger & Stephon Anthony!
So the way the trade worked out to this point...
Saints got All-Pro Center Max Unger and drafted LB Stephone Anthony with the No.31 selection. Seattle got All-Pro Tight End Jimmy Graham and the Saints' R4 #112 pick. Seattle then traded pick R4 #112, along with picks R3 #95, R5 #167 & R6 #181 for Washington's R3 #69; Seahawks used the R3 #69 pick to select WR Tyler Lockett. And Washington used our original pick R4 #112 to select G Arie Kouandjio. With the other picks, Washington selected RB Matt Jones with R3 #95 and SS Kyshoen Jarrett with pick R6 #181 (originally a Jets pick that Seattle got in the Percy Harvin trade). Ironically, Washington traded the R5 #167 pick to... ...the New Orleans Saints, who selected DB Damian Swann... Washington used the Saints 2015 R6 #187 pick to select WR Evan Spencer and also got the Saints 2016 R6 pick... Got all that? Good. Still, I'd say that's a great deal for New Orleans. And Jimmy Graham? The Seahawks are taking the All-Pro Outstanding Receiver at Tight End and making him... ...a Blocker. Add the extra pick to get him makes it even more doubtful IMO. In Swann I see more as a safety than CB. might explain the cuts of Zimmerman and Ball. I just do not see him as a starter at either the Safety or CB position. he could very easily end up being that 5th or 6th CB/S player that is a special team player mostly. This could turn into the move that dulls the trade all together. with the other talent on the board it will be hard for him to measure up in round 6 much less round 5. add in the baggage of a pick traded for him and .... Charles Gains in the 6th was the best nickle dime cover guy on the board since the end of round 4. well we will see. crow in the freezer on the good side i can stop going on about our first pick with this move. |

Re: Bottom Line: Jimmy Graham for Max Unger & Stephon Anthony!
Key will be this.
Will Jimmy Graham play a full 16 game season not limited by injuries? Ironically something he has not done yet. 13 games as a starter was an all time high for him. I think this was main reason in the trade. saints gambled on his health. I for one will always wonder what kind of numbers he could put up if he did get in a full 16 games with just minor injuries. Stephone Anthony ? - was he a reach? sure -Upside pick? oh yeah no doubt. better risk than SJB in round 2 -would he have been there at 44? highly unlikely. NE at 33 was not that far fetched and many teams inbetween -Best 34 ILB in the draft? time will tell Perryman RD2 pick 48 chargers 34 defense so we will see which is good Houston jumping us in round 2 made me think they had a good feeling that McKinney may have been our pick in round 2. Hau'oli Kikaha at 44 IMO he was a bit more of a reach than Anthony. This pick concerns me way more than Anthony pick. This was a big time gamble. injury concerns for me are high but at 44 both Perryman and Kendricks were on the board. so here is were i wonder if we may have missed the boat completely not at 31 when talking about Perryman as a pick For me it was Jake Fisher still on the board at 44 so when figuring a value of the trade i have to include the effect it had on pick 44 big time. Kendricks RD2 pick 13 vikes 43 defense Paul Dawson RD3 pick 35 Bengals |

We took Peat and had Armstead and Strief under contract... Peat is the better talent and is only 21 years of age as well... The need to select Hau'oli Kikaha or another true 34 OLB was at critical mass in this draft... If anything, I could argue we should have moved up to get Beasley and taken Fisher in the second round, but even you as well as paid experts and most of the NFL fanbase expected Fisher to go in the first round... Know I'm usually beating up Sean Mickey for their terrible drafts, but with Ireland in there, I really like what's transpired... Can't wait to see what the competition does for the OT position... My best case scenario, Peat beats out Armstead who beats out Strief; Peat at the LT position, Armstead at the RT position and Strief is the best reserve in the league and they all get a ring this year... |

Re: Bottom Line: Jimmy Graham for Max Unger & Stephon Anthony!
Looking at the box score Lofton looks great, its the reason he was a fantasy go to for me. Racked up tackles, the fact so many were after the team had gain positive yardage made no difference. Id be happy if Anthony stats are worse so long as he is making the production downfield.
Lofton was terrible in coverage and missed his fair share of tackles. IMO the 3-4 doesnt suit him |

Those 2 for a beat up TE who disappeared after his injury? I'll take it. Does not hurt that we freed up 10 million in cap space too. You can add Spillers and Browner to this deal too. No way we could of signed them without this trade.

I'm pretty sure that none of us need stats to determine whether or not he's a successful pick.
