Denver assistant up next in Saints' interview rotation
Broncos running backs coach part of two Super Bowl teams

The hunt for Mike McCarthy's replacement continues.

Saints general manager Mickey Loomis said the team has received permission from Denver to speak with Broncos running backs coach Bobby Turner about New Orleans' vacant offensive coordinator's position.

Turner, 55, has spent the past 10 seasons on Denver coach Mike Shanahan's staff, winning Super Bowl XXXII and XXXIII rings following the 1997 and '98 seasons.

"We're interviewing (Turner) tomorrow," Loomis confirmed Monday night.

Before joining the Broncos in 1995, Turner spent 20 years in the college ranks, serving as offensive coordinator at Purdue (1991-94) and Ohio State (1989-90). He also had assistant coaching stints at Fresno State (1983-88) and Indiana State (1975-82).

In Turner's 10 seasons with Denver, the Broncos had a 1,000-yard rusher nine times. Terrell Davis surpassed 1,000 yards from 1995-98, Olandis Gary in 1999, Mike Anderson in 2000, Clinton Portis in 2002 and 2003 and Reuben Droughns this past season.

Saints coach Jim Haslett placed no timetable on finding a replacement for McCarthy.

McCarthy agreed to a three-year contract Wednesday to become the offensive coordinator on Coach Mike Nolan's staff with the San Francisco 49ers.

Former Miami Dolphins quarterbacks coach Marc Trestman turned down the offensive coordinator's job with New Orleans to take a similar position at North Carolina State.

Haslett said Saints quarterbacks coach Mike Sheppard also is being considered for the coordinator's job.

Don\'t like it...... don\'t like it all all!!

Alex Gibbs was responsible for all the success the Denver runningbacks had. Did anyone notice that the Falcons led the NFL in rushing after Alex Gibbs went there?

This guy is not a proven OC. He\'s never even been an OC in the NFL. Sorry, but I\'ll pass. Does my vote count?

Surly there is someone out there that actually has a proven track record that we can hire!

Oh dear lord , I can\'t believe I\'m going to say this, but....

I gotta side with Captain Sunshine on this one. This doesn\'t exactly tweak my nipples.

Thank God. I\'d hate to know I had anything to do with \"tweaking your nipples.\"

the broncos has decent run production even last year..yeah if we could get a proven OC to come here- but I doubt that will happen..

I\'d love to grab borgues away from auburn..he did wonders with that offense...but that ain\'t likely.

Ok........ I know it doesn\'t exactly tweak most nipples here :shockedbig:

But I would rather a new coach to come in here instead of promoting our own WR coach to OC........ that would p*ss me off, cause I think our receivers are some of the best but are underacheivers, except Horn!!!!!

The Saints are reportedly not in a rush to replace McCarthy and feel there are not a lot of offensive coordinator positions available so they can take a more deliberate approach to the search.

It is also not known who they are considering next, since Marc Trestman accepted a job at North Carolina State and Terry Robiskie is believed to be staying in Cleveland. The Saints also had interest in Packers offensive coordinator Tom Rossley, who apparently turned Jim Haslett down.

2nd turndown we know of

I feel the same way gumbo. Alex Gibbs was responsible for their offensive success, not Bobby Turner.

My mother can run behind the Broncos and Falcons line.
