I appreciate you trying to clarify that, but I already know why the cap is in place. My point is the "why" doesn't make sense. I think you missed the major point of my post. I said that I get that you have to still pay them. But it shouldn't count against the team's cap if they aren't playing for you. Owners are billionaires, they can pay it, but the cap is very limited in comparison to what the owners can actually afford.

So go ahead and pay the player, but when you cut him it shouldn't count against the cap. Where is the advantage of signing a player to a bunch of money and then releasing him? He doesn't play for you anymore, so it's not like you're stealing him. And he still gets his money.

You know what they call that in other sports? Normal. Because they either don't have salary caps or allow you to pay a luxury tax to go over it, which is what a lot of teams do in other sports. This is why the cap, (specifically the NFL's version) itself, was and is a horrible idea.

All of his mouth running and bad mouthing, along with that video, and his ongoing questionable off the field choices are going to make him finding another job, difficult.

He's immature, and despite his talent as a pass rusher, I think he is about to find the job market with slim to no suitors.

Let me help you explain the why. In the NFL, the aim is for parity. They do not want the rich owners to outspend the others. This way a team in a market like Green Bay can compete with a team in New York.

If cut players' money did not count against the cap, an owner like Jerry Jones would sign a player to a large contract but with a great deal of it in signing bonus. Then he cut that player a couple years into the deal without any hit and spend a huge amount to do it all again. The salary cap would become a scam.

If that's the system you want, do away with the cap altogether. But if so, do not complain when rich owners buy their way to a championship over and over again.

This was expected with all the things going on with him off the field and even on the way to the field. It's a shame it had to come to this, but they had to part ways with him to stay credible.

I thought he was overpaid and said as much when he was given the extension, but they'll just have to eat the dead money and learn from it.

To me Galette never seemed dominant, a one trick pony, who never seemed to show up when it mattered. It's funny how people are talking about the 22 sacks in 2 seasons, and on that basis alone deem him a top-tier pass rusher - clearly they haven't seen many Saints' games.

And if anyone needed any more convincing this was the right move - just look how classless his reaction was to his release.
