Re: 4th and 20 D was Sean's call
I expect our D line to improve with Akiem Hicks in the game, he has had a great training camp from reports.

We don't have a reason to play hard now. Before, it was Katrina, then it was trying to prove they're not a one year fluke. We need that reason again to win, it isn't going to be to show up the commissioner.

I think he's just covering for Rob.

Who cares; it's preseason... What better time to try it and see how it works out?

Missing out on that big man, really wanted Xavier Williams (DT, N. Iowa) or SOMEONE BIG in the 7th. In 2014, we take SJB (58th) over NT Dix (83rd)? In 2013, NT Kwame Geathers who went UDFA was there in the 7th and made a team. What? Didn't like the name Geathers this decade? Why don't we take a flier on some big ones late? Well, recently we picked up veteran DT K. Williams, at least. Pray we're not yet done. |

I remember in Sean's first year here we went 1-3 in pre-season. It wasn't just the record that looked bad. I remember we got blown out by Dallas in one of those games, 30-7. They looked completely inept and were coming off that 3-13 season. We all had high hopes for Brees, but it just looked like the team was too bad. Well, we all remember how that season ended up, and we beat that same Dallas team 42-14, or whatever it was. Now we could have an identical performance in this pre-season and end up being bad. The point is that it tells us almost nothing. That's just how I see it. I'm not justifying any of the bad, but I've seen too many weird things in these games to really form an actual opinion over it. |
Re: 4th and 20 D was Sean's call
Why can't Payton just leave well enough alone when it comes to defense? One minute he's announcing we're switching to a 3-4 and hires an appropriate coordinator to run it. After one up and one down season he brings in Dennis Allen and we switch back to a 4-3 essentially making Rob Ryan a lame duck defensive coordinator.
Wanna know why we might suck on defense again this year? How about having a coordinator on his way out, a defensive assistant who is already affecting the scheme, and a head coach who is offensive-minded overriding both of them to call defensive plays. It's a mess folks. |
