If we cut him, we would save only 690k on the cap and carry dead money next year. 2 million of his next year's salary is guaranteed and he still has 4.8 million prorated cap charge on his signing bonus due to restructures. He could be benched assuming there is someone on the roster better. That puts the cap charge on the bench. I doubt he retires before this season and it is doubtful he retires before next without a catastrophic injury, but in that case, he still gets the guaranteed money and the Saints still take a cap hit. And even if he retires, the cap charge from the signing bonus already paid is still counted toward the cap throughout the duration of the contract. |
