Re: All too familiar???
One thing's for sure -- IF Byrd were to retire and/or need to be cut (and of course that's a big IF), then Byrd's not playing for the Saints would lead to absolutely ridonkulous amounts of dead money spread out over the next two seasons, to go along with Junior's $17m, Graham's $9m, and Grubbs's $6m.
IF Byrd goes south, because of injury or any other reason, that's $47m in dead money over two seasons. That's more than Brees will be making. I don't know of too many GMs on the other 31 teams who could get away with something like that. It will be hard for the Saints to be competitive, with that much dead money hanging around their necks. It will basically require an absolute 1000% batting average on draft picks, bargain trades, and undrafted walk-ons. No room to pay anyone lavishly at all. |
