The Importance of Deuce

Who,

Interesting post.

Can I get some clarification on the \"utilizing Duece\"? Our run to pass distribution was like 46-54 per 100 plays. That means we ran almost 50% of the time. Of course, Duece was hurt for a couple of games, but they DID \"utilize him\".

I\'m going to agree with this: put Duece back in a formation he is comfortable with (i.e. one with a FB and probably just one TE), and stop d--king around with 2TEs, and he\'ll play better.

However, it is not clear to me that Duece was so under-utilized as people seem to think. It is my view that the OLine was just so poor, as was the scheming (at least some of the time) that Duece just couldn\'t have been much more effective this year (injury aside, of course).

..if you are referring to my \"under-utilization\" post, what I mean is that there are virtually no screen passes called to Deuce and there isn\'t (or not enough) a mixture of running plays that catch the defense off balance ( delays, draws, etc...). You know when the Saints are going to run and which way they\'re running... and you know when they are going to pass, and who they\'re passing to...

T-R,

I meant my claim to be general.

Just to be clear then, your view isn\'t that Duece is under-utilized, but rather that he is mis-used?

I didn\'t know if you meant in general or you were referring to my post.. which is not a bad thing,as now I know that my lil\' diatribes aren\'t in vain

..guess you are right, \"mis-used\" would be a better term ...

The Importance of Deuce

Thanks for the info, Who...interesting thread. Admittedly, I am biased toward Deuce, but I think he has performed admirably as a Saint. I\'m with you, Danno. I hope he can get back to the shape that we remember from the first couple of years. I can remember Jimmy Johnson stating back then that one of the things that made him so dangerous was his ability to break the big one on a regular basis. In his first year as a starter, it seems like he had about three very long runs called back for penalties, and a few more that counted.
We don\'t see a whole lot of that anymore, Hopefully this year he will return to that level, and we will see a lot more of that breakaway threat. Regardless, he is a very likeable guy, and seems to know the right things to say and do, which makes him a very refreshing change of pace in a league that seems to be heading more and more towards me first and the team second.

Whether you think you can or think you can't...you're right!

That was my point... and I wasn\'t saying that Deuce IS misused. Instead, I said that when he is used effectively, the Saints odds of winning seem to increase dramatically. If you take that statement as true, then I guess it\'s pretty fair to say Deuce is well-used about 50% of the time.
