The Saints won't have Drew Brees on the field in Week 3.

Every game, all season

Saints coach Sean Payton announced Friday that Brees will not play on Sunday against the Panthers. Brees is dealing with a shoulder injury sustained in last week's loss to the Buccaneers.

"Drew Brees will be out for this game," Payton said. "He'll travel, and I think just where he's at in the rehab and his strength, that he felt, and we all felt like it would be too early for him to play this weekend."

"I would say next week we'll continue the process, and without trying to make an estimation about his return, we felt like he made progress without the week, and yet he's not where he needs to be or where we feel comfortable with the strength that he needs. But he did get better each day and we'll just see where he's at next week."

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers, coach Sean Payton announced Friday. Brees suffered a rotator cuff injury against the Buccaneers last week.

It will be the first time in Brees' career with the Saints he has missed a start due to injury. Luke McCown will start for the Saints, Payton added.

Smart decision. Let him rest and rehab that shoulder. McCown is logic answer. You don't throw rookie QB to the wolves.

Let's see what the "Generator" can do.... For some odd reason I see us getting the Victory call it a gut feeling or maybe it's this Daquiri either way I'll be watching !

I'm expecting the win. The Saints are the better team.

We were supposed to be the better team against Tampa Bay, and we were at home.. I'm not saying we'll lose this one, but being the better team on paper hasn't been doing anything for us on the field.

I agree. Have seen nothing whatsoever that tells me we are the better team. Paper or not

Have you watched the Panthers play? I have and they look worse than we do.

If Brees hadn't got injured in the first half the outcome would have been far different.
