this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I keep hearing about how young we are on defense, but as it pertains to this year, does that really matter? If we're trying to figure out what our chances are THIS year, then what we're seeing is a team ...

I keep hearing about how young we are on defense, but as it pertains to this year, does that really matter? If we're trying to figure out what our chances are THIS year, then what we're seeing is a team that's a long way from being a playoff contender. If we're talking about next year, that's an entirely different subject.
But what about the offense? We're lacking in every position, and there are only a couple players who look to be future pieces. I've accepted it. It'll be what it'll be... But this roster, as it stands, is never getting us anywhere. Lot's of changes must and hopefully WILL be made. |

Re: Saints don't lack desire or effort; they lack playmakers
That picture with Damian Swann's reaction perfectly describes our reaction to this last year and this year.

Re: Saints don't lack desire or effort; they lack playmakers
Different group from last year (x-Jordan) and they still can't tackle.
Still taking bad angles. Still can't cover. Play makers make plays. They play in the moment. They make the tackle and not whiff. They actually close the deal on the "almost" sacks. They make a play on the ball when it's in the air. They actually make the interception when they end-up in the right place. They make the catch when the ball hits both hands. No one makes the tackle on every down. But when the play is in your wheel house, that's the moment of truth. We don't have enough of "those" players. We don't need 22 of them. We only need about 4 of them on both sides of the ball. Everyone else will feed off of them. A lock-down corner pretty much takes 1/3 of the field away. Now only 2/3's need covering. Good nose tackle locks up the center and a guard. LBs and DEs should benefit. Good TE keeps the LBs and strong safety occupied. Opens up singles on the outside. Good running back actually makes play action effective. (good being O-line dependent) We have a good QB, that's not our problem. We have some talent. Just not "enough" play making talent. At least not yet. |

We definetely need another threat in the passing game. I still think Spiller will end up being a good player but unless we magically start running the ball better, all defenses have to do is stop Cooks.
