Because the Patriots have intelligent coaches that know how to use players and how to coach them. We have a bunch of pretender coaches that are leaching off of wins delivered 5 years ago.

Great, the Patriots will turn him into the next Richard Seymour or Wilfork. Just great.

Got to be a real coach to really coach. Billichick is a defensive minded coach with the knack for putting togather a good D and a good O, rarely does this happen. Payton great on the O really bad on the D but what Bellichick has over Payton is he can pick a defensive staff where Payton can't.

The difference is our O used to be good, now they are just as bad as the defense.

Re: Saints trade Akiem Hicks for Patriots Michael Hoomanawanui

Now i know why Hicks was on the bench.

Michael Hoomanawanui FA in 2016 no biggie .946

Hicks FA in 2016 cap 1.25

Hicks would coast to much to resign next year given the cap the move make sense to an extent. Next year is all the cheap pieces the saints can find to fill the roster

Now Rob has been talked about but the Pats also added Rufus Johnson, who the pats really like. Remember him? our sixth round (183rd overall) pick in 2014. I wont even talk about Jenkins or Harper starting or any other of our cast off from the defense that are still playing.

Look there are some serious issues going on with the saints and the defensive side of the ball since Rob signed on.

Think about what we let walk due to the cap and then look at what we signed. Draft picks shown the door also. To make personnel moves based on cap then turn around and sign players at a higher cap hit to fill the same position is not really a business move. So the FO is out of the spot light IMO

IMO this is all about Rob getting the players he wants and getting rid of players he does not want. results so far has been pi$$ poor to say the least.

I will enjoy yet another saints cast off on the Pats roster to get my nose rubbed in it yet again by my friends that are pats fans.

I don't think this has anything at all to do with what Rob Ryan wants. I don't think Rob has much of a say at all over personnel. Why would they rely on a DC's opinion of a player when its likely he'll be fired at years end.

I think this has Payton, Ireland and Loomis fingerprints all over it.

Remember, Loomis is not a personnel guy. Loomis is an accountant. He knows how to work the numbers to an advantage better than anyone else in the league. But, talent evaluation is being made by Payton and Ireland, I suspect.

Agree 100%. Loomis is the perfect GM, as long as he lets his personnel guys make the decisions, which I think he does.

And I think that currently the voices in his decision making ear are primarily Jeff Ireland and Sean Payton. I thin the only time Rob Ryan may have any input is when Player A and Player B are equal.

I know we banged heads on this before so it is no biggie

If this were "totally" true the saints deserve to go down the toilet based on some of the worse management organization of any multi million dollar business in history.

Sure there are a few times were you gotta take a move on the chin and move on but not every single time.

90% of the time I say Rob has pretty much the final say on a move. especially one like these.

At the very most 10% are out of his hands.

The same goes for the draft. his input on defensive players is huge on draft day. He has the scouts do his home work like any other senior management official then he makes the final wish lists and sells it to the board.

No way will I let Rob take anything less than 75% of the blame for any moves on defense and IMO that is being nice to him. 85% is real IMO nut 75% will do
