Re: We need to go after a big receiver in Free Agency
The offense is fine -- Drew put up 38 points against a top defense that is quite probably going to be in the Super Bowl or deep in the playoffs. It's the defense, defense, DEFENSE that is still a dumpster fire, and needs to overhauled from top to bottom.
The last thing we need is drunk Loomis opening Benson's wallet and spending more cap money trying to make a "big splash" in free agency. That's what got us into this mess. Loomis and Payton are like a couple of drunks when it comes to recklessly spending Tom Benson's money, and we don't need to enable them any further. The way it stands right now, the only way the Saints can ever win, is that Drew Brees needs to score EVERY SINGLE TIME HE TOUCHES THE BALL. Every drive has to be for points, or else we are toast when the other team gets the ball -- that's what happens in almost every game. A single punt or missed field goal, and the game is basically over, 14 points, 21 points it doesn't matter -- we lose any lead we have. The last thing we need is to worry about Drew having to score more points to get a bigger lead. |

Re: We need to go after a big receiver in Free Agency
'sign a big WR' 'We need a solid RB' ' Drew needs to go and we should draft Connor Cook'
All these statements are bogus if you believe, like me, NFL games are won and lost in the trenches. The O-line and defensive front 7 are our biggest needs. Senio, Lelito, Evans, Strief its been fun but you guys need to find employment elsewhere. The Saints need to strengthen the line or it won't matter who we have at the skill positions. The Dline needs another End that is not a liability in the run game. Then, get rid of Hawthorne and draft a weakside linebacker who can play the run and is decent in coverage. I know the DBs(mainly Browner) get a lot of flack, and they should because they look lost out there, but Breaux/Lewis/Swann/PJ give me a good feeling about our DBs if only the front 7 could create pressure. Browner needs to go. He can't cover and refs are singling him out with penalties. I don't see the need to draft a CB but a Safety should be high on our list. There is a lot that needs to be fixed and Brees will NEED to restructure his deal or get traded/released/retire in order to make this team competitive again, but I don't think grabbing a FA skill position is the answer. |

Re: We need to go after a big receiver in Free Agency
Saints need to build the offensive and defensive line in free agency and the draft unless someone falls (like Reggie Bush) into their laps who they can't pass on.
I really hope Loomis learned that winning March doesn't mean a thing in December |

Wonder why we're starting 2 rookies at linebacker? No depth at linebacker. Wonder why an UDFA is starting on the defensive line? No depth at defensive line. Our Front 7 is a hot garbage trainwreck that has blown so many 2nd half leads that it has become common and puts this defense at the bottom of the NFL...but if a Megatron or a D. Thomas will help us score 56, our defense better hold the opponent to 55 next year. |

Re: We need to go after a big receiver in Free Agency
I will disagree with anyone that thinks we need to look beyond our o-line and front seven defenders. All our problems get solved by protecting Drew and making holes offensively and on the defense generating a pass rush and stopping the run. Receivers and secondary are both made better by time. QB gets time, receivers get open. Get to the opposing QB and defensive backs don't have to cover for long.
Drew can make any receiver look decent given time in the pocket and Ingram and Robinson are capable backs with blocking. I do not agree with addressing WR or RB with any more high draft picks or FA pick ups except for depth. Our money and top picks need to be spent on the lines. |

Re: We need to go after a big receiver in Free Agency
i think we can sneak a WR and/ TE in the draft
round 2 Tyler Boyd WR Pittsburgh 6015 200 4.47 Jake Butt TE Michigan 6051 248 4.83 round 4/5 Tajae Sharpe, WR, UMass 6025 200 4.48 but OLB DE with the ability to seal the edge is needed big time OG is a an abyss we keep heading north in the draft and we stick with a 43 defense i would look at a draft like this as a good risk rewards while filling needs. but were do we address the secondary Round 1 Jaylon Smith OLB Noter Dame 6025 240 4.67 Round 2 Vadal Alexander LOG/T LSU 6051 326 5.39 Round 3 Chris Jones DT/DE Mississippi St 6045 308 5.12 Round 4 Sebastian Tretola, ROG, Arkansas 6045 334 5.28 Round 5 142 Tajae Sharpe, WR, UMass 6025 200 4.48 Round 6 New Orleans → Washington Round 7 206 Josh Tupou, NT, Colorado 6-3 325 5.00 but in no way should we be adding big ticketed FA. We need to go balk to the approach of making a bunch of small ripples in the FA pond rather than these huge splashes. |

Re: We need to go after a big receiver in Free Agency
First off. We haven't developed a wide receiver since Curtis Johnson left. I believe that he is still available after Tulane let him go. This is one of Payton's old drinking buddies I want on the team and hope he and Sean are in close contact waiting on the end of the season. I think Henry Ellard is our current wide receivers coach who hasn't developed talent yet. And before you say Snead is good. He was listed as a developmental prospect when he actually was much farther along. His draw backs in the draft process were his size and speed. But he's a coaches son and is smart.
Anyway, Drew needs a true number one at this stage of the game. If we can bring in a player who plays a back up role somewhere else with potential then I'm in. But we can't take a risk on another splash in free agency. Basically, we have so many holes to fill that it's not top on my list anymore. |

FYI-Brees looked better in the second half because they weren't running the ball, more oortunities for catches. To say we could not do that in the first half is not right. You can blame run blocking, but Ingram's run well on second down. Now that he's done, we'll see what Drew does with no Ingram to run the ball on first down. |

Toon didn't work out because he came from a school that does not produce NFL talent[Wilson was a transfer]. |
