Drew Brees in ‘horrible, miserable pain,’ still wants to play

Ironic that the Saints will sit the player, even injured, that gives them the best chance to win, and will play the player, uninjured, that gives them the best chance to lose!

According to ESPN, Brees has a torn plantar fascia in his right foot, which affects the quarterback’s ability to push off while he throws.

A similar injury has sidelined Peyton Manning for the past five weeks.

Before this season, Brees had never missed a game for injury, according to ESPN, but he sat out Week 3 with a shoulder problem.

Via ESPN, here’s what Saints coach Sean Payton had to say about Brees’ injury:

“We’re kind of taking it day by day. I know he’s had it looked at, he’s had an MRI. I think each day we’ll gather more information and have a better idea of where he’s gonna be as it pertains to playing in this game or not.”

Maybe Brees is trying to play through his injury out of pride, but it seems like with the Saints out of the playoff picture he should sit down and let rookie Garrett Grayson, a third-round pick, get a few reps over the final two weeks. It’s not like Brees has anything to prove to anyone. Just start the offseason a bit early and get ready to bounce back next year.

The Saints close the season against the Jaguars at home and then against the Falcons in Atlanta. If he sits, I imagine Saints fans will understand although I’m not sure fantasy owners will.

Cool, glad he's gonna give it a go. Don't care he's the sacred cow, if he wants to give it a go, then by all means do it. Thats what team mates like to see..Some people are saying he's only doing it for the stats, and some say we should shut him down, but I say go for it. Leader's lead, in this day and age of candy ass sissies and prema donnas I think it's refreshing.

And what if he aggravates the injury playing in 2 meaningless games?

Might as well find out what we have in Flynn and Garrett

I That plantar fascia crap is a painful bi**h, I'm sure he will be under a microscope. If he can't go, he can't go, at least our leader is giving it everything he's got. Would you want someone like Cutler? I'm sure if can't go, or doesn't finish this game he'd be out for the final game. Flynn will only be here for two more weeks, face it, he's a career backup. GG should get the start before Flynn and I am all for it, yes I'd like to see what he's got. But I like the grit and competitive fire from #9.

This is Week 14 and the Saints are currently 5-9; if this were Week 4 I would also be glad that Brees was willing to play through the pain.

Awesome, Brees is going to play. Now that is established please put this man on injured reserve and call it a year, there is NO reason to put him out there.

What exactly does a SuperBowl winning and eventual HOF QB have to prove to anyone other than himself? There's a fine line between competitive fire and reckless stupidity. They are two sides of the same coin. Brees is willing to flip that coin. The Saints organization should not follow his lead. Brees should be inactive for the last two games at worst and put on IR at best.

As WhoDat656 has already pointed out, the games are meaningless. So running Brees out there is reckless stupidity.

We've already seen this happen this season. Brees should not have been out there for the 2nd half of the Bucs game at home.

Let's not make that same mistake again. The next meaningful game for the Saints is in September of 2016. Let Brees get healed up and get ready for that game.

Super Bowl Championships: New Orleans Saints:1, Carolina:0, Atlanta Chokers: STILL ZERO

Only Atlanta choked in an unchokable situation... Life is definitely good.

He has nothing to prove. He's wants to play because he loves it and his career is coming to an end.

He does play because he loves it. But hope that he can really be healed as well. He is getting up in age.
