sell me on this kid. I would think of him more of a safety. I like the way they summed him up. 'see ball, get ball' attitude. but i see a kid that will require safety help deep. he is incredible at roughing up WR in coverage especially down field. He has the talent but his instincts worry me. for being so physical his run support is really lacking in effort. So as a CB he is a major project. As a SS safety he seems to lack desire. As a FS he has to answer the IQ question. i am just lost on this kid and the hype he is getting to make him a second rounder.

See previous page to start (http://blackandgold.com/saints/75959...tml#post694741)...

Xavien Howard, Baylor, Cornerback

Hagan...watch his closing speed, like you said "go get ball", just absolutely amazing...

soft, soft hands - he intercepts the ball over the shoulder better than most pro prospect receivers...

his size gives us a big DB to match up on the larger receivers; he would smother smaller ones like Josh Norman did to Cooks on end zone routes...

he could play both safety and cornerback; could allow Damian Swann to move to Free Safety...

and my favorite...Howard can absolutely bring the wood, decleating smaller running backs...

It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...

I see all of that. But I see Browner also. I also a CB that hates to tackle in run support. He is a FS IMO. If your going to draft the kid that and that is your plan so be it. I can devote the time to him. We can not dump Jairus Byrd till 2017 at the earliest, so we need some one. I just want some one at FS that is good in run support and more refined in pass coverage so we can clear Byrd from our books. If this is to be the guy they better be ready to coach him up and make sure his football IQ is enough to work with.

As a CB I think NFL WR are going to abuse his physical playing style. Add to it the conference Baylor played in is not really loaded with top notch QBs.

I am just so hesitant on the kid as a CB. I do not like read react skills as a main selling selling point at CB. Instincts are huge. Read and react is a safety trait.

Xavien may be better suited to play safety. The kid likes to mug you at the line & that is a no no at the NFL level. Will have issues with shifty, quick receivers. Saw him last year vs Texas Tech at Jerry land stadium ... big corner.

Good value in the 3rd rd.

Side note: I wouldn't touch him in the 2nd.

Hagan, you did see him tackling, laying out the running backs, right?

You did see his incredible timing on the ball, that is instinctual?!

I am trying JP I am really trying but I just can not go here. close but.....

I watch more than few baylor games and I was not that impressed to see him in round 2. Just like Andrew Billings at 12.

Then there is the speed offense thing also. covering half a field at a time against WR running weak route tree makes me pause. While the spread offense is a high scoring, fun thing to watch, it does little to get college players ready to play at the pro level.

I will have to chew on this pick for a while.

Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............

Today was Marshalls Pro-Day
My homer favorite, Swedish guard, Sebastian Johansson had a good day.

OL Sebastian Johansson
40 yards: 5.14
Vertical jumps: 32 1/2
Broad jump: 9-5 (Would have been tied for second at the combine)
Pro bench (225-pound reps): 26
L-drill (3-cone): 7.27 (Would have been best result at combine)

The Saints had no representative there today but I am still hoping
