Re: What the Superbowl showed me
Very good thread, my hats off to Wade Phillips excellent work against both the Patriots and Panthers. Have to think Oail Andrew "Bum" Phillips
is up there very proud of his Son. |
Re: What the Superbowl showed me
I liked some of the new commercials. Besides that I enjoyed watching Cam lose control.

Re: What the Superbowl showed me
I haven't watched any part of a super bowl halftime show in about a decade. When I heard who was going to be performing, I knew that missing it again would probably be my best decision of the week. The super bowl has never had a band or solo artist that I liked. It's always ear candy pop, some loud mouth diva or tired old act like the rolling bones. It's just not for me.
I didn't really pay much attention to the game either, and didn't see googoo gaga sing, but I saw something about her performance afterward. I was shocked that she actually looked like a person. I thought she might have been an alien before. |

Observations:
The Panthers 4-3 and Broncos 3-4 work because they've got the right guys in the right position... It took a while but someone finally stopped kissing Cam Newton's a$$ and started kicking his a$$ this season... Peyton's body is done; he will at least have hip surgery in the near future and should listen to Olivia, not the media... The Broncos receivers are so overpaid Manning has spoiled them in past seasons; no effort to fight for a ball... Peyton Manning won a Superbowl against a great defense despite having Gary Kubiak as a head coach... Luke Kuechly, great hair and all, should have been named the season MVP and not Cam Newton... We have a great head coach and offensive genius in Sean Payton... The best entertainment was surprisingly from Lady Gaga... The Halftime Show has got to go down as one of the Greatest WTF moments in NFL history...What was up with that?!? Angry Beyonce marching in with the Black Panther Amazons overwhelming a British testosterone-challenged, elevator music synth band?!? With Bruno Mars doing some kind of tribute to the late pedophile Michael Jackson?!? Way to keep the Shield classy, Rodge!!! |
Re: What the Superbowl showed me
What SB 50 showed me was this: We need bigger and more talented DTs to stuff the running lanes and press the middle so Carolina becomes one-dimensional, just like Denver did to them. Miller & Ware got the glory, but Denver's DTs clogged the middle consistently, stuffed the run, and pressured into Scam's face brilliantly.
Bottom Line: We need to get more talented, more physical & more disciplined on the defensive line of scrimmage if we want to make a run at winning the NFC South. |

Re: What the Superbowl showed me
What we learned, or specifically, confirmed, was that Carolina is very beatable.
Great game plan from Phillips: stop the run, take away Olsen, and let Cam beat himself. Let's not forget we lost two games to them by a combined 8 points, and one was without Brees. As was the case all year, we had 10 chances to win both games, and couldn't close the deal |

In the first game I believe that if Brees had been playing instead of McCown he would have put the pass in the endzone to where it would have been a catch or a defensive penalty. The second game if the Saints defense, specifically Browner, had played better we would have completed the sweep. I doubt Carolina makes it back to the playoffs next year. |
Re: What the Superbowl showed me
Miller was great off the edge, yes. But, I was awed with Ware even when he wasn't rushing the passer. Was he playing DE? Looked bigger than an OLB.
I expect the nice defensive backfield helped that rush, too. NT/DTs shut down the middle (whoever they were). Draft wouldn't mind seeing if the right value player matches the position: 1) OLB 2) NT 3) OG 4) OG (do we have all our picks for once? Quick, someone trade away a 3rd or something) |
