I like the idea of moving in to the high teens/early 20s.

There is a good amount of talent at the DT and DE positions.

If we can't land Robinson or Billings at 12 then we should move back.

QUESTION: Receiving end of a Ditka for Drew

I'm surprised that more people don't want to trade Ditka for Drew.
I'd trade Ditka for Drew any day.

Maybe being on the receiving end of a Ditka scares too many people.
Houston trading their entire draft for Drew is just to mind boggling.

Don't know on this one ... it will come down to what the Saints do in Free Agency but from what I read on JS, this guy is an immediate impact player. How is the knee rehab coming along? If you read some of Nick Underhill scouting reports, he points how badly we were abused when Ellerbe was out. I mentioned this before on the board but if someone told me that we could have Captain America (Luke Kiechly) but he would have to sit a year ... I could care less.

In saying all that, I still want a DE like Robinson at #12 :p.

Saints haven't had speed at Linebacker since Vilma left. Smith would be 3/4 of Dome Patrol V 2.0, it looks like they are trying to put together now

Now we will soon find out at the combine what is the deal with the knee.

If the knee checks out I still expect Smith not to be on the field in 2016.

As a results I can see his stock taking a real hit. falling out of the top 20 with a cleared medical would be kind of a shocker.

So if the saints traded down and got additional picks in day two of the draft and ended up with Smith. I would look at it as a cautious win win and a lot of if's and's and but's to wait a year on.

Drafting for the future is probably the smart move, but the clock is ticking on Drew, he won't play forever.

Players could also be trade bait as the Rams are stacked on D. The Texans would have to pony up quite a bit more like a 2 and a three.
There's a lot of talent available in the 2nd rd . We also have lots of spots to fill and draft picks are salary cap helpful. After FA we will be able to determine more about draft needs. The Rams scenario is much more palatable. However, there will be lots of players in the second rd that could improve our talent level. Things will get very interesting after the combine . Can't wait. Hope springs eternal for the ever suffering Saints fan.

We're talking about a possible franchise QB, if the Rams want a QB that bad, I'd force them to part with a 2nd rounder or possibly Alec Ogletree.
