:broccoli: .. I'm loving it. This guy can be a key piece to clogging up the middle when he wants to be.

We quietly have upgraded the defense immensely this free agency period

Somewhere RaginCajun puts his fist through a wall lol. I'm happy with it. Considering we don't have a single 3 technique DT on our roster I really don't want to solely rely on a rookie. Nothing's official yet but I'm hoping it happens.

While there’s no official word yet that Fairley and the Saints have a deal in place, New England and New Orleans were reportedly the only two clubs to formally meet with the 28-year-old. The Jets and Eagles had also been viewed as teams with interest in Fairley, who said earlier this week that he was still talking to the Rams as well.

Re: Nick Fairley in town

similar situations:

2015 Spiller (Pats also were interested, even offered him a contract, we overpaid)

2016 Failrey. Let's hope this is structured like Laurinaitis contract...

Good thing we don't have the cap space to overpay too much...

Coach Sean Payton said earlier this week that a three-technique defensive tackle remains one of the team’s biggest needs. Fairley fits the bill and would likely slide in next to Jonathan Jenkins on the defensive line if he signs with the Saints.
Talk about a MASSIVE interior line :bng:

So then there's this:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Kinda quietly, the <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Saints?src=hash">#Saints</a> have had a really nice offseason. Tough cap situation, but they're doing work -- Laurinaitis, Fleener, Fairley...</p>&mdash; Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) <a href="https://twitter.com/RapSheet/status/713394031921905665">March 25, 2016</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

A disappointment as a starter early in his career in Detroit, Fairley has proven the past two seasons that, when healthy, he can be a disruptive player.

He will slide in next to John Jenkins on the Saints' interior.
C'mon DA, just keep him motivated!

Don't like this signing but if he's turned his life around and they want him, the. I'm all for it. I cheer for the team first, players second

Re: Nick Fairley in town

I expect a Brees' restructure soooon. And I believe Hill deflecting to the Bears clears 1.3 mil in cap space, after the matching time has passed.

We still have to reign in the punter salary...

Re: Nick Fairley in town

Ok Brees...sign a fair extension and let's get moving here. Even with Hill going to Chicago, there's no way we have the cap room for this and any other unprocessed contacts and future contracts without him restructuring and extending.

Would like to see it happen sooner rather then later so we can move forward here.

We have the lowest cap space in the league...
We need to restructure....

Has Morestead even been approached by the FO on a restructure? Really surprised if they haven't.

Re: Nick Fairley in town

YES!!!!!!

The guy has pro-bowl potential.. But admittedly he also has bust potential as well.

I must admit, this move has me pretty fired up. He's a perfect 3-tech DT to pair alongside Jenkins. His upside is unquestionable. We should now be able to get some push up the middle, which will make Cam Jordan's job a lot easier, and whoever ends up playing JACK (Kikaha, Tull, Edibali, draft pick etc...)

Re: Nick Fairley in town

Wow, shows how desperate we're to get a 3-Tech Defensive Linemen (Hope he can stay healthy and show the maturity needed right now)...

Plus you got the new "chop block" rule going into affect ... he gonna' draw some penalties or they're not going to be able to slow him down using conventional blocking methods, in theory, :).

Be careful of too much fanfare though ... it seems to go to his (Fairley) head and then he rests on his laurels. I'm just hoping his stint in STL woke him up a bit,.

I agree with you. Maybe the last round of FA woke him up and he got his head screwed on right and decided to grow up. I am willing to take the risk and say yes. Incentives are the key in his contract.

Not yet; but there is too much smoke not to be at least a spark of fire.
