New Orleans Saints sign DT Nick Fairley
1 Attachment(s)
The New Orleans Saints have signed defensive tackle Nick Fairley, the NFL Network reported on Monday.
Fairley, 28, visited New Orleans earlier this month, and also had reported interest from the New York Jets, New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles. Fairley will likely get the first chance to fill the role held by veteran Kevin Williams in 2015 as the starting three-technique defensive tackle in the base defense. A native of Mobile, Ala., Fairley played college ball at Auburn and was selected by the Detroit Lions with the No. 13 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. In four seasons with the Lions, he played in 46 games, making 13.5 sacks and 98 tackles. Fairley signed a one-year, $4.75 million contract with the St. Louis Rams last March. He played in 421 snaps off the bench last season (36 percent), registering 29 tackles and half of a sack. http://image.nola.com/home/nola-medi...142-mmmain.jpg Changed from visiting to signed!!! Re: Nick Fairley in town
It's about freaking time we address the D-Line! Nick Fairley scares me though... Classic high risk/high reward.

Re: Nick Fairley in town
Somebody get the crash cart and O2 for KMajor - the shock might've overwhelmed him...

Great addition and I say we take the risk. If not we can always cut bait. Incentivized contract for sure.

Re: Nick Fairley in town
Welcome to the team Treadwell.... hehe

Re: Nick Fairley in town
I guess we'll be paying him in monopoly money seeing as we were under 3 mil prior to signing Laurinaitis and co.
|
Re: Nick Fairley in town
We haven't signed him yet........
However, we still need a GUARD in the draft. I'm fine with Thomas over Treadwell. |
Re: Nick Fairley in town
His reputation for being lazy scares me but he undoubtly has a ton of talent.

Well looks like some restaurants might be extra busy tonight. Oh how I don't want Sully Jr on this team

Re: Nick Fairley in town
^What is wrong with Fairley?
|
Re: Nick Fairley in town
Fat, lazy, took plays off and been known to look like Tarzan and play like Jane. Ask SloMo he'll fill you in

There really isn't a better option at DT in FA. If we sign him and Hatcher I'll be happy. |
Re: Nick Fairley in town
We NEED talent on that line and Nick is talented. Strong at the point of attack, ties up blockers (this is where LB's can make plays), disrupts plays etc. Recent addition James Laurinitus (sp) would probably give coaches more input on his production from last year w/the Rams.
I can't see why anyone would be against NF if the price is right. |

He will sign. Call it a hunch. Im excited the front office is getting serious about our defense. I believe the philosophy is changing in front of our eyes.

Re: Nick Fairley in town
Well????? We're waiting!

Re: Nick Fairley in town
If he signs he will be the next swing and a miss by this FO, this guy couldn't get motivated during his contract year, even Mark Ingram pulled that off
|
Re: Nick Fairley in town
RC might be right. I mean we must pay attention to someone's criticism. Remember we were all excited by SJB and someone was not and that person was right.

I was ready to roll the dice on him last year. The Rams ended up with a solid signing last year. |

Re: Nick Fairley in town
If the contract is right I would be interested in the gamble here. But I don't want to pay market value for this guy as if he is problem free. I am more for quality people in the organization over potential problems. I like his potential talent, just not his off field concerns.

Re: Nick Fairley in town
Looks like no deal was done since there's no update.

Re: Nick Fairley in town
What do we have to lose? I mean we were what 31st in total defense? Nick Fairley can only help. He damn sure can't hurt it.

Re: Nick Fairley in town
sure he could, they could rank dead last

Re: Nick Fairley in town
How long does a negotiation take? The fact it's taken so long should tell you all you need to know......if he cannot decide he wants to play here, then just get lost. We don't need all this bribing and courting for him to sign.
