this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; By no means am I trying to remove Rob Ryan from blame(he deserves it), but certain moves shouldn't have been made....

Stfu Rob, so it was the head coaches fault when the other teams fired you too?

Why hasn't this thread been merged with the 2016 Coaching Staff thread?

I was talking about 2014. We lost the division because of the offensive ineptness against Atlanta.

We lost the division because we won 7 ( one Tampa gave us ) ganes that year. We won 7 games because our d stunk and the online, especially at center, wasn't very good.

Average talent at best on defense. Bad coaching overall. The situational coaching in particular was horrible. There's just no other way to see it.

Re: Rob Ryan: "I did a damn good job and got fired for it"

He is an unsuccessful DC. His record proves it. If not for his lineage and his larger than life persona(not a jab at his weight)he'd probably be coaching in some small state college.

His game plans are overly complicated and he can't make in game adjustments.

When he has all the players healthy and he has talent he can produce an adequate defense. He was decent in Dallas until injuries struck hard and got him fired. Then the bad luck followed him to New Orleans. It's hard to beat a good team when you are starting backups and they are missing assignments.

One of the analysts on the NFL channel made a good point when he said Rob Ryan didn't miss tackles or take bad angles. And this is true. They backups were not really ready to play in a starting role. However, he didn't hold them accountable either.

Sean Payton could see that his defense was floundering which is when he insisted that Ryan simplify his defense. Having said that I want to say this. Don't ever let Payton influence the defense!!!
He is great with the offense but he just doesn't get "it" when it comes to defense. Hopefully DA will get the job done. We shall see. But I think we've got the pieces in place to be a good defense. We have returning valuable rookies. We are getting back players from IR. And this years rookie class appears to be highly talented. Screw Rob Ryan! He'll throw his brother under the bus next.

Didnt he also make excuses after he was fired in Dallas? I wish it would've worked out w him here cuz I would've started showing up at Ms Mae's on Sunday nights.

Well lets look at the games we lost. I will give you Atlanta on defense. However, Ingram was the best player that game. The offense still had the chance to win in OT. We were up 20-7 at halftime. On the other team's turf week 1 you cannot expect them not to try to come back. Brees did not put this game away.

Week 2-Cleveland, this is again on the offense, we had the ball and the chance to put the game away. Oline got Brees sacked on a big play. That Cleveland team ended up starting out 6-3.

Week 4-Defense was bad but offense didn't deliver either until it was too late. We held Bryant to 44 yards on top of it. Graham gave up on a pass that got picked when the saints were trying to get within 7.

Week 5-Again, Brees struggled early which led to the bucs nearly winning but somehow they tightened up in the second half and got to OT where we won.

Week 7-Had Brees not thrown that int, we don't lose that game.

Week 10-Again, this was a tight game, and the big fourth down play was what led to this loss. However, Graham really lost this game. And, Colston put a cap on it. This was the second OT this season he lost the game. But it was SF and we basically just allowed three more points in regulation compared to the season before.

Week 11-The offense did nothing this game. 27 points allowed does not happen without some offensive production.

Week 12-The defense lost this one here, yes.

Week 14-We never even put up a fight.

Week 16-Again, I already explained.

I'm not defending RR but I was more annoyed with the offense this year(and Graham) than I was the defense.
