Rob Ryan: "I did a damn good job and got fired for it"

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Apparently, Rob Ryan thinks ranking 31st in the league 2 years in a row is a good thing!! How can the blame be pointing to anything other than the defense when the offense has never ranked outside of Top 5 ...

Rob Ryan: "I did a damn good job and got fired for it"

Apparently, Rob Ryan thinks ranking 31st in the league 2 years in a row is a good thing!!

How can the blame be pointing to anything other than the defense when the offense has never ranked outside of Top 5 in the 10 years Payton has been here.

Rob Ryan tells website he did a 'damn good job' with Saints and got fired for it | NOLA.com

Former New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Rob Ryan said his last two seasons with the Saints "were a waste of time" and that he did a "damn good job and got fired for it," he said in an interview with theMMQB.com.

"Everyone wants to run Seattle's defense," Ryan said. "They should have hired a Seattle coach. I did the best job I could. Under the circumstances, trust me, I did the best job I could. I'll be better anywhere else. (Pause). I'll be great anywhere else. But it was unfortunate."

Ryan, hired by his brother Rex as an assistant head coach with the Buffalo Bills, said "there are two years that don't have my signature on them, and it's the last two years in New Orleans. And that's just the truth."

The one season Ryan said had his signature was his first with the Saints, in 2013, when he took over a defense that ranked last in yards allowed and it ranked fourth in that category as the Saints went 11-5 and made the playoffs.

The Saints ranked 31st in total yards allowed in 2014 and 2015, and the team fired him 10 games into the 2015 season.

Added Ryan: "I think I have always advanced the head coach's plan. But at the end of the day, the last two years in New Orleans were a waste of time for me. ... I was hired to be in a multiple system in New Orleans, and I did a damn good job and got fired for it. I'm more hungry now than I have ever been. So I wanted to go with the right guy. And the right guy is someone I have 100 percent trust in and 100 percent faith in.

He did have a good point though that they made him change his system and try to be more like Seattle. It was obvious that they neutered him by bringing in Dennis Allen and making everything more vanilla.

He made similar comments after Jerry Jones fired him up here in Death star nation. We've moved on.

He's "more hungry"?

Wherever the equivalent of Ms Maes in Buffalo is, better watch out.

Look, I'm sure there is truth to what Ryan is claiming but I'm also sure there was reason for the moves.

Regardless, he wasn't getting the job done and he wasted our time more than we wasted his.

I'm sure none of those checks bounced...

I watch football not to have to watch the drama of daytime TV. It was fun. It's over. Let's get back to football.
