Moneyball equivalent for Football?

Is there a Moneyball phenomenon going on in New England? How do these guys make relative unknowns into a cohesive, winning unit year end and year out without superstars? They seem to only pare off at FA, but wind up getting better.

Are we missing something about evaluating talent that the FO at NE seem to see? There's got to be more or different components to evaluating talent than what's suggested at the combines/workouts. Does Haslett think he's found the secret?
