Since the FO is not looking at defense anyway,
how about we trade Deuce to Miami or San Fran for their number one pick and draft Ronnie Brown? Deuce is due a big contract probably, and Benson doesn't wanna pay that money. Brown is a beast and has never been mentioned with conditioning problems(Danno). Since the team is eschewing defense to become more like the Colts anyway, why wouldn't we do this? If there was one player in the draft I woudl trade Deuce to get, it would be Brown. 230 lbs with a 4.40 40 time, built like a truck with great hands. Thoughts?

In all seriousness, though ... at some point, as a Saints\' fan, you\'ve got to have some loyalty to some of the players. Otherwise - you\'re just a fan of the Saints\' logo. No matter how many better runningbacks MAY be out there, I will ALWAYS want Deuce to be our guy. That is, as long as he\'s still producing. And that\'s the way I feel about all the players on the Saints. There are better defensive ends than Charles Grant, but Charles Grant is my guy. I\'ll live with him and I\'ll die with him. So long as they are producing, I\'m with \'em all the way. |

Interesting idea which doesn\'t make bad sense at all... even though I love screaming DeUUUUCCCEEeeEEEEEEEEEeeeEEEE!!!!! everytime he touches the ball at the games. On the other hand, he is the face of our offense. Actually he\'s the face of our team and yea we do need to show loyalty to him. What would other free agents think if we did trade him away? Also, why would we trade a Probowler away for a rookie? There are lots of pros and cons with this idea, and I wouldn\'t mind having him here for the next 5-6 years. I also wouldn\'t cry about it if he wasn\'t.

Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but some abuse the privilege.
All little common sense goes a long way. |

I am not oppose to trading deuce. However whats the mess with Benson not paying the money... Tagging Howard isn\'t cheap and when you are something like a millions under the cap how the hell can he pay anymore than what he is.

Very true Gumbo, as I have told people Stallworth will be a top 10 WR in the next three years, I am still loyal. But I also see Whodi\'s side..... we just might not be able to afford (spelling?) Deuce later on in his career.

I agree with you guys. I love Deuce, and I am loyal to him. But with decisions like his and Joe\'s contract looming, it is obvious no free agents are gonna get big money here. So we move Deuce\'s contract, it\'s no longer a worry. And we get a stud RB at a lower contract. allows us to devote money to getting better in other areas. I would be very sad to see Deuce go, truly, but if it is the only way for them to feel free to pony up the bucks to get us better on defense, so be it. This franchise doesn\'t know the meaning of the word loyalty anyway. I can name 20 players who should have retired Saints but didn\'t. Don\'t start the loyalty train now. |

Dude you act like you are the only smart one here I got news for you there are at least 3 of us here... LOL.
Not to get off point here but... he was tagged last year as well. gets 120 percent what he got last year. If ya pay him last year what makes you thing Benson isn\'t willing to pay him for tagging him yet again. That is the point I am making. [Edited on 4/3/2005 by Euphoria] |
