The Saints WILL NOT give up 30 + points a game on defense in 2016. Guarantee it.

Critics can sleep on this team if they want to.

Offseason in a nutshell: Though the Saints were a disaster a year ago and all signs pointed to the team playing without either Sean Payton or Drew Brees in 2016
Uhhh... what? All signs?

A prediction of 11 wins isn't sleeping I don't think.

Sleeping is Darren Woodson who predicted the Saints to finish last in the division yesterday on NFL Live.

Pundits don't seem to understand two critical points:

1. The Saints have finished 7-9 the last two years with historically bad defenses. Not just bad for a season. Bad in NFL history.

2. All signs point to the defense not being historically bad a third year in a row. Improvements are evident in scheme, personnel, discipline, and health.

So if you can win 7 games with virtually no defense, then what's the expectation when the Saints have a halfway decent defense? Don't need to look far back: 2013 came in with a 11-5 record.

Super Bowl Championships: New Orleans Saints:1, Carolina:0, Atlanta Chokers: STILL ZERO

Only Atlanta choked in an unchokable situation... Life is definitely good.

I'd like this twice if I could.

7-9 for 2 years, with extremely close losses.

Its beyond obvious that we had several young players begin to emerge last year. We had the most rookies of any NFL team.

We the signed some very good players this offseason.

I'm convinced many "experts" just don't have the time to study all 32 teams and simply look at last year results and if no huge names are signed, assume the worst.

In my opinion...

7 wins would be a disaster,
8 wins would be a disappointing,
9 wins would be slightly under-achieving
10 wins is about expected,
11 wins would be slightly over-achieving
12 wins would not be a total shock.

Under 8 or over 12 would very much surprise me.

2013 isnt exactly the best reference, the D was ranked #4 in the NFL that year. However, I agree with the assertion you are making here.

Even our own sports guys aren't expecting much. I am optimistic cautiously but will reserve judgement until after the season

If we don't improve this year I don't see much chance of us contending again without a major overhaul.

If you can win 7 games with virtually no defense, then yes even a little improvement on D should help. As long as our offense doesn't take a step back.

Anything less than a downright good defense won't get us back to 7-9 if our offense takes a step back. It could very well become a complete loss. Think Brees can average another 20 plus points a game average?
