If we don't improve this year I don't see much chance of us contending again without a major overhaul.
We have already had a major overhaul. Have you been asleep the last couple of years? We have replaced virtually 90% of our roster.

That of course is a given. However, it honestly not a subject of discussion simply because there is no evidence to support that the offense is going to be significantly different than it has been.

Anything less than a downright good defense won't get us back to 7-9 if our offense takes a step back. It could very well become a complete loss. Think Brees can average another 20 plus points a game average?
Take a look here and observe some of the "most consecutive" NFL records:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...ing_touchdowns

Most consecutive seasons, 30+ passing touchdowns: 8, Drew Brees, 2008–2015

Most consecutive home games with 1+ passing touchdowns: 54, Drew Brees, 2009–present

Most consecutive games, 1+ passing touchdowns: 54, Drew Brees, 2009–2012[1]:

BTW Did you know that Drew Brees second streak starting in 2012 ran another 45 games ending last November? So literally in the last 105 games there have only been two where he did not throw a TD pass?

Brees led the league in passing last year. And he only played 15 games. If he had actually been healthy for the 2nd half of the Tampa game and played in the Carolina game it would have been a 5th 5000 yard passing season. A 5th where no other QB in history has more than 1.

Now I know that the offense is more than about Brees. However, you have a decade of consistency to rely on all the way up to game 16 of last season.

So as I started with, there's no evidence that the offense will regress. In fact an improved defense will help the offense too. With more balance and less pressure to come from behind all the time, signs point to progress not regress.

Super Bowl Championships: New Orleans Saints:1, Carolina:0, Atlanta Chokers: STILL ZERO

Only Atlanta choked in an unchokable situation... Life is definitely good.

Top five offense and a top ten defense is not impossible. Improbable but not impossible........I'm an optimist.

We've come out of nowhere a couple of times and had good defenses. I think we can do it again.

In my opinion the only "surprise" would be to finish 2016 with less than 10 wins.

We will again finish with a top 5 offense, and every indication is we'll likely be a middle of the pack defense.

Thats 10 wins minimum.

It really depends on so many factors. We have the building blocks though and we are working our way back. I am telling you I still have a feeling that our offense could be as good as '11.

Give me a D that is 20th and we will make the playoffs. I will wait to see how the D sounds in camp vs the O, etc. Just have to see the product on the field

In my opinion...

7 wins would be a disaster,
8 wins would be a disappointing,
9 wins would be slightly under-achieving
10 wins is about expected,
11 wins would be slightly over-achieving
12 wins would not be a total shock.

Under 8 or over 12 would very much surprise me.
Once again Danno. You put it in perfect perspective going into training camp!

I'd like it twice if I could.
