I agree with this. It's like we're trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. We're gonna ruin this guy's career.

I'm sure they will put him in the best position to help the team. They aren't going to put him anywhere that another player would be better. Coaches know what they are doing. I think they are moving him around so he gets a better picture of the working parts of the oline as a whole.

Bah! Humbug! And I'll explain why I think that. Playing guard is a lot less demanding from an athletic standpoint, speed, hip flexibility and such isn't nearly as important as for a tackle. Peat however have those skills and they will only benefit him.
The most important thing for any oline player after being big and strong (obviously, duh!) is being able to move in an efficient manner and placing your body in the best position to succeed against the defender. Understanding the concepts of each play, how you take the best angles, to position yourself. That is what he needs to learn, it will not ruin his career in any way but it might take a little while for him to adjust to it.

Ross Tucker wrote a pretty good piece on young o-line players in the NFL that I recommend reading.

Really? So the whole pulling down the line, getting downfield and maintaining run alleys that's not demanding?

Or swinging underneath, or jumping ahead of a defender to trap block a big strong man, without holding him, is not athletically demanding?

Guards, Centers usually engage defenders near post-snap; whereas Tackles often read defenders and move to seal them out of an area - Peat is used to a more read, react style of play rather than pre-snap read and react upon snap...

Believe Peat's length is also giving him problems at guard where he's more naturally suited as a Tackle; so, I'm not surprised he's really impressed more at Left Tackle...

No one wants to say it, but Peat needs to be at Left Tackle if he's to maximize his potential...

It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...

He may well be a better tackle than guard but as it stands is the line stronger with Him at guard and Strief at RT or with Strief dropped snd one of the unproven guards starting. Thats the big question abd still a worry for me. So much of the offense needs a pocket for Brees so the interior needs to be strong

Well, that's on Payton and Loomis for pi**-poor planning...

Terrific guard was on the market in Clint Boling and we instead signed DB Browner who was left off the Patriot's active roster for their championship run in favor of a UDRFA...

And I get drafting the BPA in the draft, but if we don't have what we need on the roster for interior lineman, we should have signed, drafted a guard rather than try the fitting the provervial square peg into a round hole...

It's obvious Peat is a tackle, he's more natural and plays better at tackle; and if maximizing his talent is at tackle, we should consider or try looking at Strief as a guard, maybe...

It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...

Re: Saints tackle Andrus Peat is in shape and playing well at his second training camp

This reminds me of a situation when the Saints drafted Jim Dombrowski, who was a terrific left guard, but played him at tackle initially because of veteran Brad Edelman (who was the weak link on a good offensive line), Edelman's age (play) finally allowed Big Jim to shift inside and Kevin Haverdink played LT until Richard Cooper later took over...

I agree its on those that fill the roster, it was a strange pick to start with imo. I've always had the feeling that the players they targeted went and they couldn't get out the spot and reacted. Not sure if Strief could play at guard or not
