Re: TRADE BREES
A couple of things...
One, would Payton stick around without Brees or a franchise quarterback? Probably not, as Payton wouldn't want his "stock" to take a hit... Two, Brees is contracted to the end of the season at a cap cost to the Saints of $30 mil and then he's a free agent after the end of season? Who'd make that trade? - maybe the Broncos, and they'd likely be in the Final Four of the tournament, so you're gonna get, what?!? A first round pick at the end of the draft? There's only one sensible course of action at this point, play out the season with Brees, scouting his level of play charting any possible decline in play and make an informed decision, course of action at that point... |
It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...

Re: TRADE BREES
I would let him play out the season. We have already paid fot it. The O-line being as it is he'll be lucky to make the season and if he does I don't think we resign him anyway. As for Payton, a losing season drops his stock as a HC but he is still one of the top OC's in the buisness. I don't think he would be out of work unless he wanted to. So far McCarthy in GB has done alot better than Payton(it really pains me to say that) maybe GB"s FO is better than ours from top to bottom. They at least show they are thats even trading Favre away.

Re: TRADE BREES
I've said it a bunch but if anyone has any value and makes any sense to trade it is Ingram. He's got good enough stock and has shown the ability to carry the load. Blame his lack of production this preseason on the offensive line. It's a good selling point to other teams. Seems like the other backs while unproven have done a better job anyway.
I don't know if it's feasible financially but it makes sense other than that. I really like Ingram too so don't start with the Bama hate. |

Re: TRADE BREES
He will play this year for us regardless but after that is a mystery. If no contract is reached for next season we could franchise him for about 43 million and with a salary cap of 155 million that's very cost prohibitive. Remember Drew will be a year older and will only command high dollars from the win now at all costs teams. All I'm saying is why would a team sign Bree's after this season for a 2 or 3 year contract at premium dollars and then he retires at 40 when they could start a rookie this year and have a franchise QB for 10 to 15 years? They wouldn't. I truly believe they will get him what he deserves but at the same time protecting the teams interest and that's in the best interest of everyone including the fans.

Re: TRADE BREES
I say trade him just to satisfy that group of our fans who want him gone. We'll get laughed at by the rest of the NFL, collectively, and return to 3 to 4 wins seasons. Makes sense, right?

Re: TRADE BREES
IMO the only move that makes sense is getting Brees under contract for another 5 years, and continue to build a team around him. We are talking about a Hall of Fame Elite QB with plenty left in the tank. Probably a once in a lifetime QB for the Saints franchise, who by the way until Brees got to town only had maybe a solid QB or two over the course of their entire history. With Brees the Saints will always have some hope, without we are looking forward to top 5 draft picks for the next several years.
