Phazahn Odom TE Fordham 6076 245 4.74 #15

Mighty mice 7/UDFA Top priority FA IMO

I really like
George Kittle TE Iowa 6036 250 4.77 #46 rSr

Interested for sure
Darrell Daniels TE/OLB Washington 6032 246 4.54 #15 Sr
verified Vernon Davis-like 4.4 speed?

Keep an eye on as an option
Cam Serigne, TE Wake Forest 6025 250 4.78 #85 rJr

Good list I was impressed with the guy from Washington, it didn't show much on his blocking but him playing olb he has to be at the least a decent blocker. If we wanted to go with a blocking TE the Iowa guy. I see no reason Payton don't pull the trigger in the draft on a TE.

Re: 2017 draft prospects thread

Kittle is my poor mans Butt in the draft. Do not under estimate his receiving skills. He ain't pretty like all 3rd down traditional TE but he gets the job done in all phases of the game. Like C.J. Beathard it is had to judge how good they may be because of the system they were stuck in at Iowa.

Darrell Daniels is a swiss army knife on offense. He was not asked to block much in Washington's offense so it is kind of a mystery. Like the fact you pointed out the experience at OLB, Good indicator he will shy away from taking on defenders. If he does put the numbers many think he will, his stock should sky rocket by draft time.

The way Brees/Payton likes to throw to high buckets (Spot Locations) we really need a 6-5/6-6 Tight End with reliable hands and good route discipline...

Fleener really cost us with those drops this season...

That last statement is true in more ways than one.

TE Blake Jarwin (Oklahoma State)
QB Wes Lunt (Illinois)
DT Chunky Clements (Illinois)

Today we can add:

LB Calvin Munson (San Diego State)
WR Tony Stevens (Auburn)

Colby we are married to through 2018 looking at his contract. The drops are an issue but the next glaring concern is his lack of effort in blocking. Even setting a hard pick appears to be to much to ask.

Draft a freak like O.J. Howard and you get your contract out from Fleener if he does not get his act together down the road. Plus he is a huge up grade as a blocker. Nice to draft a player that gives you another weapon but also offers freedom if all goes as plan. Dull threat at TE would be a nice. Taking a page from the pats playbook here.

I always look for true impact freaks on day one. Player that only come around once in a blue moon. Add in the ability to free you from a contract trap down the road is a huge plus. Fleener is a huge contract trap from 2018 on. 2019 and 2020 he is a 9 million trap. Yes the dead money gives us an out.

Add in a trade down once or twice and the picks it would bring would not only offer flexibility but allow a huge influx of youth on defense.

Mel Kiper's first mock draft has us taking...

New Orleans Saints

Reuben Foster, ILB, Alabama
Foster is one of my favorite prospects in this draft. At 6-1, 240 pounds, he has stellar range, runs sideline to sideline and is a complete linebacker. He's a terrific blitzer, too, and recorded five sacks in 2016. The Saints need defensive help -- 2015 first-round pick Stephone Anthony played just 127 defensive snaps this season.
