C.J. Spiller Released - Mistake or Necessity?

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; We had 4 fit cornerbacks and needed the space as Breaux cannot go to IR if Rankins is wanted back. Had to be done, would have been done after the season and may aswell eat the dead money ow and start ...

Mistake? waste of money sure but i said that the day we signed him.
Necessity? negative effect on cap makes this kind of silly.

lets see what shakes out of this.

We took on an injured player
We gave him guaranteed money
We gained minimal from him as he was injured
We allowed him to get healthy
Then we sent him out into free agency with no return on our investment

Great job Mickey and Sean.....

There should have been an option for both. It was a mistake to sign him and it was a necessity to cut him. It was a cluster **** to guarantee so much to an injured player.

I may be wrong in this thinking but I truly believe we tried to trade him. The problem is I don't think anyone wanted to take over that salary. I would think no matter the round draft pick he should have warranted, that the salary had to be the reason.

According to Sean we did try, but we had to make roster moves and had to cut bait in a hurry. It is what it is. Onward and Upward. If it were me I'd try and trade for a solid (read 'starting') corner.

Hell he could've returned punts and kickoffs and done very well. I would've renegotiated his contract if that's all he did for sure

Necessity; Injuries have put the defense in a bad spot... He hasn't shown much of anything, why keep him around waiting for something to happen...
