Clayton: Howard to Seattle?
March 9, 2005
Could Seahawks make move for Howard? The Saints hope to have a Darren Howard trade by the end of the week, and one team to watch is the Seahawks. Desperate for defensive help after cutting linebacker Anthony Simmons and losing cornerback Ken Lucas and defensive end Chike Okeafor in free agency, the Seahawks are running out of options to get help at defensive end. They aren't as interested in Titans cornerback Andre Dyson, who wants and should get around $5 million a year. They are inquiring about Broncos restricted free agent Kelly Herndon, a cornerback. But to get that defensive end help, they may have to trade for Howard or Broncos defensive end Trevor Pryce. March 9, 2005 Tebucky Jones likely to be released Watch for the Saints to release free safety Tebucky Jones before next week. He is due a $400,000 roster bonus. After the Saints signed Dwight Smith at free safety and re-signed Jay Bellamy at strong safety, there is now no need for Jones, who is being shopped around in a trade. |

Clayton: Howard to Seattle?
All I know is, if they move Howard, they better do something smart with whatever they get for him. If it\'s Seattle, unless it\'s Matt Hassleback, they don\'t have a player that I see fitting a need of ours. That probably means the Saints will have draft picks and cap money. Great - sounds like the last 3 years, when they spent it oh so wisely.

Then the I have a hard time justifying a trade.
Just stop and think about it for a second. Let\'s say we get a second for Howard. Think he\'s more valuable to the team than, say, I dunno, Devry Henderson?!?! |

Clayton: Howard to Seattle?
I just don\'t see anyone giving up a number one unless we offer something else. trading pics in another round maybe. There has been talk before Saints willing to part with him for a secong and no takers. Until a team gets needy enough... I don\'t see a number one pick, Seahawks I give they are starting to get worried but they still don\'t seem to be in a situation where they\'d give up a number one. Plus side for us there are a lot of talent in the 2-3 round and clears up cap room for next year.

We will def get a second. There is no doubt in my mind about that. But a first is not out of the question. Howard has produced like a first rounder, and the Hawks just lost Chike Okeafor. It\'s funny how guys say draft picks are gambles(not specifically you Euph) but then scoff at giving up a pick for a guy who is not a gamble and has proven he can perform at a high level in this league. We can\'t afford him, but somebody can and will trade for him. I\'d throw in T-Buck to get the first.
