Because DA knows in order to not get 50 points hung on us he has to disguise looks to cause confusion. The problem is that our defense is usually more confused than our opponents.

Seriously? That was in training camp. In practice, during a drill. The teams weren't even fully lined up against each other.

Whats the point?

With his outstanding performances before he got hurt do people actually think he won't improve this defense?

improve the defense verse being the cog that we have missed on the line and the sole reason for our defensive line woes are two completely different things.

He is a rook, and we hope he is very good, but expectations should be tempered since he is a rookie that has missed half a season.

and his point was the same one I made, he has never intercepted Tom Brady on a screen pass. preseason stats and play do not count. And before you shoot the messenger- that isn't my rule. Worse than quoting a play in a preseason game is disingenuously making a statement that grossly exaggerates the reality by purposely leaving out the surrounding context.

Re: Enter: Sheldon Rankins...

Was at the game and made it a point to key in on him when he was in.

Overall, pass rush was there, but because of the bad coverage scheme people were running wide open. They never needed more that 3 secs to hit an open target. When coverage was decent the pocket collapsed. He also played well in the run.

He is going to be a stud, saw one double team that he pushed through and collapsed.
burningmetal and K Major like this.

Now preseason doesn't matter? I distinctly remember there was a certain level of crying about our offensive line. But go ahead and tell me about context.

I said getting Rankins back is like replacing a bad spark plug and you come running in like I was digging in your fridge. Relax, we're on the same team

-Pushed the pocket
-We rushed 4 a lot so there weren't many 1 on 1's for him to exploit
-was upset with himself he didn't grab the fumble
-Flashed a spin move/bull rush/hump move(kind of a straight arm)
-Think he got blanked out on the stat sheet
-Could see him giving the olinemen fits
-Kelly likes his QB to get the ball out quickly, wasn't a good game to see him flash
-Came out of the game healthy
- C+
-Played more than 10 snaps
-Didn't see the QB hit but that's good news

He's going to be a problem. He's got good footwork and the agility of an edge rusher in tight quarters but he got chipped or helped by another olineman rather often this game. One of his spin moves got him by the initial olineman only to see him get chipped by a second blocker. Few times his hump move allowed him to re-establish the LOS but the ball would come out quickly and negate his progress. As Lelito said...he can dent a pocket.

Will be easier to see him flash against pocket passers/ teams that utilize 5 and 7 step drops/ and when we 5man blitz a lot to get 1 on 1's

Sounds promising .
Sounds very promising, indeed. I didn't notice him with all the easy quick throws our secondary were giving away. Even if Kelly didn't like his QB to get the ball out quick, we made it too easy. So hopefully all that stuff said about Rankins is true.

If he is getting chipped, that's what we want. If he can't get to the QB, someone else should, when two linemen are taking him on. Dennis Allen made a mistake not playing more man coverage and forcing Kaepernick to hold it longer, even for just half a second, in my opinion.

If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.

I think he will at the very least hold his own and keep us from seeing any more drop off. He missed a lot of time though and to count on him making a big impact right away is asking a little much.
