I would give Payton another year

I feel like his hands have been tied due to the cap situation. I would like to see if Loomis and him can learn from their mistakes and start making some better ones. They took a bunch of gambles that didnt pan out. After Katrina if I was asked if I would sacrafice the next 10 years for a Super Bowl I would have jumped on it. I say give him another year, see what kind of personnel moves he makes, coaching changes, etc. If we dont see a big improvement next year give him the boot.

I really dont know who else would be a better fit really. I agree that Payton has gotten comforatable here and doesnt have much incintive to move anywhere else. I do think he is a good coach, maybe now that people are really holding his feet to the fire, it may just light a fire under his ass.

No. He created the cap problem. He created this defense. He became predictable on offense. I'm to old to give him another year. I want a championship before I die.

You have already had a championship and fortunately neither you or anyone else on this forum has any say whatsoever over the head coaching position with the Saints. Both Benson and Loomis love Payton and have no intention of parting ways despite meaningless speculation by a CBS Sports hack with a reputation for throwing as much crap against the wall as Ian Rapoport. They all get paid to a degree on web page clicks. Wild speculation with absolutely no basis in fact generate more clicks than the boring honest truth.

What does your post have to do with anything that I said??? Again, we all have opinions and this one is mine. SP has warn out his welcome. He has been avg at best the past 3 years

The TEAM has been average at best the past three seasons. The head coach does not take the field. Given the number of key injuries this season and defensive shortcomings in the past two years, being average could be deemed as about as well as could have been done by any other coach.

He needs to make changes on his coaching staff though. At the very least, fire McMahon to show that he cares more about the team than his own personal agenda.

2017 is our year, WhoDats! We've reloaded at lots of positions. But still need more bodies to handle a championship run next year.

Re: I would give Payton another year

I'm hopeful for next year. Brees is just fine and it looks like he is going to have the best receiver corps he has worked with. Our offensive line should be tops too. We may have him surrounded by a very very good cast. Our defense isn't as bad as it was and we will have some money to spend there.
