Me too but if you've watched closely, Byrd has been playing good football the last 3, 4 weeks. As previous posters have said ... he's appears to be healthy.

I'm not so sure about that on JP. Sean and Dennis often talk about consistency and keeping guys together/not adjusting scheme. You already know what happens when we remove guys from the back end to insert new players (see year 2014).

Wk 9 - highest grade on team (according to PFF)
Wk 12 - JB was rated 5th on team (with Kenny V)
Wk 13 - JB was rated 3rd best on team
Wk 14 - JB was rated 4th best on team

As you can see, he has been solid since the mid mark of the season. DA has figured out something (3 safety sets). It's more beneficial to keep him (work out a restructure), and keep him another year. Under the circumstances I think DA has done a good job of putting players in position to make plays. Maybe this off season the FO adds another corner back so only another player is having to learn the system, then double down on the three safety set & also add a top tier pass rusher.

It's pretty clear he was injured and was playing on a bad ... historically bad defense ever a year or so ago. Now that we are decent, so is Byrd. I don't think this is coincidence. Cutting him in 2017 doesn't make sense but 2018 does.

No way I'd let Byrd walk over 3.5M or so. Hindsight is 20/20 but I hate the contract ... not the player.

Byrd has been playing better this season and I like how when he got benched in favour of Vonn Bell, he didn't complain, he just mentored Vonn Bell whenever he came to the sideline.

I'm not buying it, not one bit...Two games to go in the season and he shows up?

Gotta look at the whole tenure, injuries and all...He was not available for most of the time he's been here...Payton was even frustrated, questioning it last season...

And Kenny V, a player with less time in the league, had to finally call him out...

Walks like duck, quacks like a duck...they're better safeties available for less...

And if the secondary looked better, it was because we finally had a pass rush and a MIKE that could cover...

He has been so out of position, gets turned around, doesn't show up

Cornerbakcs expect coverage over the top

I'm pretty ready to get rid of Byrd myself. However, I don't know if you guys have noticed or not but Vonn Bell has been downright awful in deep zone coverage. He's been way better in more of a strong safety role.

Hilarious! Byrd needs to be thrown out with the trash cause thats how he has played since he has been here.

Guy plays half decent for two games and now he is a keeper.... unreal.

Byrd hasn't been spectacular by any means but given the anemic pass rush and corner back "situation", I think he's been fine. Kind of hard to be a ball hawk early in the season when he has Ken Crawley & Webb @ the boundary CB spot.

Better be certain you have a viable, capable FS to take over if Byrd departs next season.

Byrd has been a pylon in the secondary for 3 years, which seems as though everyone is forgetting because he actually got a couple INT's for the first time. Whoopty do!

Just this year announcers were criticizing him for being a complete liability. This is the exact same situation as Browner, the only difference is the team crapped the bed worse with the contract.
