I really mixed in what to do.
I dont like the cost but i do think the DB need some vet and winning experience. Breaux is going to want big money soon too and im really unsure paying him with his injury history.

More than a 3rd and im not liking it. Could live with a 2 but would like something else back but the Pats know they can get a 3rd for him

If the front office does devide to go with a 1 (really hope not) hope they wait till the draft and make it an 18 pick

We have no idea what the cost will be. People are fixated on these $13-$14 million per anum numbers that were thrown out as speculation.

The question is how much it would take to corral Butler. High-end cornerback contracts slot somewhere in the neighborhood of $14 million annually
That is from an article in the Boston Herald by Jeff Howe. Those numbers aren't coming from Butler, his agent or the Patriots. It's coming from media speculation alone. Once again, the gullible forum readers pounce upon anything and twist it into fact.

And again here in an article by Matt Dolloff of CBS Boston ...

Although Butler has not held out or even spoken publicly about his contract, it would be hard to believe that he’d be happy about playing for $3.9 million in his fourth season with the Patriots while Gilmore walks in the door making $14 million. Even if the Patriots are still interested in signing Butler long-term, it’s unlikely that Butler would sign any deal for under $14 million per season.
This is where the number is coming from. Get your facts straight.

Note: the "your" I'm referring to isn't you, lee, it is addressing the general public that dwells on inaccuracies. I just used your post as a launching poit.

The more I have slept on this idea the more I don't like it. So much we could do with the 2 first rounders and wouldn't mind trying to trade up.

Jump in front of the panthers even to grab RB out of LSU if the Jags dont' take him. I don't want to have to try and stop this guy in our division. Even thought I love Riddick/Foster with that pick.

A first rounder doesn't have to be involved.

Let's just jump in and draft a couple of guys that can tackle the RB out of LSU and everywhere else then let the chips fall where they may...

If the Saints give up anything more than #42 overall i'll be upset, but life goes on. I just dont want this team to make a boneheaded decision and feel like they absolutely need Malcolm Butler at the expense of valuable picks.

Me too. I have a bad feeling about all of this. The Saints should let the patriots keep Butler.

It doesn't matter. The Pats will come out with the better end of the deal. Saints will give up too much. I'm prepared for it already. I just hope they draft well with the rest of their picks...Whatever they have left.

The best option indeed...although a 4th would make me think about it.

It's true people are fixated on the 13-14 a year mark. It's a logical number and I'd be surprised if he signs anything for less then 11-12 a year with a large chunk of guaranteed money.

Some rumours that the Pats may offer Butler a deal
They have back-loaded Hightowers deal so may be looking to extend Butler.

Wouldn't be too bothered just keping the picks and also would not be surprised if the Pats led Loomis up th garden path by talking a future trade with Butler to get the deal done and always planned to extend once Butler had an idea what he would get on the open market after meeting the Saints
