He didn't play better. He played the same.

You mean like perhaps...

27/35, 293 yards, 2TD's, 0 Picks, and a 120.3 rating?

Nothing will. I keep telling ya'll (and my own brother, who would prefer the Saints be LSU) that we have 10 seasons of evidence of the Payton-Carmichael-Brees DNA. They are not going to run the ball. They are not going to run the offense through the running game. They are not going to keep one package out on the field. That isn't the Saints offense, and nothing short of all three leaving the organization is going to change it.

The reason that Ingram is now the near perfect back for this system is that he runs the ball efficiently. He can get 15-18 touches and end up with over 100 scrimmage yards both running and catching the ball. AP isn't going to change that. AP isn't going to change the offense.

To improve the run game, improve the defense. The Saints run the ball when up by 10,14,17,21+ in the second half. Poor defense makes this a rarity.

An improved defense will make the rush game more effective. Having Ingram and AP pounding the ball in the 4th quarter will be effective.

But if the score is 35-27 with the Saints on the losing end, you can forget it.

SFIAH
Good points there. about the best we can hope for is that AP's presence will prompt Payton to come back to the run more often, particularly when their defense seems tired or on the ropes.

I'm really conflicted about this move. Not even sure how to describe why I'm conflicted because it's a cheap deal and he's one of the greatest of all time so it should be a no-brainer. There's just something that bugs me about him.

What stat are you pulling up? Brees hasn't played the vikings since 2014 and that game was pathetic(20-9).

And here's some stats
@NYG-29/44, 263 yards, 1 TD, 43.3 QBR and 89.5 passer rating
@SD-23/36, 207 yards, 2 TD, 2 INTs, 73.4 QBR, 74.7 passer rating
@Car-35/44, 285 yards, 79.5, 2 TDs, 1 INT, 54.8 QBR, 99.3 passer rating(those two TDs came in fourth)
Det-31/44, 326 yards, 0 TDs, 3 INTs, 30.6 QBR, 63.3 passer rating
@TB-25/41, 257 yards, 0 TDs, 3 INTs, 28.7 QBR 48.5 passer rating
@Atl-29/50, 350 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT, 50.2 QBR, 84.6 passer rating

Re: AP is close to deal with Saints

I've been fine with the idea of signing him for the right price, from the beginning, and I remain fine with it. I keep hearing people talk about him like he's washed up, and keep hearing how he hasn't played much in the last "couple of years" from tv people. In actuality, he hasn't played much in two of the last three, but in between was a nearly 1500 yard season. He only has one season separating himself from that. If he gets back healthy, no he won't be 25 year old AP, but can he rush for 1200 and average close to 5 yards a carry? I think so. But he won't have to, as part of a tandem. 15 carries a game out of him could be an extremely productive scenario out of a platoon guy.

This isn't like when Emmitt Smith went to the Cardinals for his final year, when he had already been in a huge decline for at least three years.
frydaddy and K Major like this.

If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.

Re: AP is close to deal with Saints

It's surprising to see so many people saying they don't like the move or they don't see how AP fits. This is how AP fits, he's Adrian Friggin Peterson! I don't care if he's 32, he's still an upgrade over Hightower. That's not a knock on Hightower, it's just that AP is one of the best to ever do it. So if we replace a player with a better player, to me that's a good move. I don't think the FO would throw huge money at him and why would they?

As far as Ingram is concerned yeah he might get a little salty with AP taking away some carries but Ingram is at his best when he's mad. Ingram has played the best football of his career with Hightower there to push him. So you'd have Mark Ingram running angry and AP coming off the bench in relief. That would be a pretty solid one two punch. And if Ingram gets hurt then you have Adrian Peterson to replace him with.

Where is the downside???

No downside on the field. I just think he's an absolute piece of crap. Junior Galette still gets trashed and we're bringing in AP?
