I'm not saying Boldin should play a major role but he would be a nice situational player. Our receiving corps could use a more physical presence, especially if we are serious about cranking up the running game with AP/MI. I'm not saying Boldin is Hines Ward, but indeed he is the closest thing out there in free agency. Is it the end of the world if he doesn't sign? No. But he could help us get better in areas we need to get better at. |

Well, if he was added what young receivers would be left to be mentored? Another factor is that adding a player like Boldin you would lose TWO roster spots. The fifth WR (and probably the sixth if the Saints carry that many) would be expected to play special teams. Boldin isn't going to serve that role so therefore the Saints would have to find that special teamer at another position.

The NFL doesn't have AAA or a D-League so therefore you can't have many veterans around or you aren't developing any young talent. And the practice squad rules are pretty wonky so you can't rely on that. Thus the moves for reliable veterans that *should* make sense don't often work out in the NFL. I think Boldin could help but yes I see the other side of it.
