I personally dont care if we pass the whole game.
We cannot run.
We shouldnt pretend we can.
We shouldnt waste downs on getting stuffed, just so we can say we tried to run.
Just pass the damn ball, and dont worry what everyone says, Payton. You're out the door anyway, if you dont take us deep into the playoffs.

IMO this would only work if we really embraced the run and shoot and sped up the tempo. Payton's too stuck in his ways to make those kind of changes, and we'd just get exposed like we do now.

Give him 30 carries and be done with it. Might as well since the defense could not stop a Albertson's plastic bag.

I thought that's exactly why he signed them. Take pressure off Drew

We were up 6-3 with a balanced rush-pass attack, even though it was often 1-2 yards and a pile of astro-turf...

If we don't plan to return to the days of quick strike aggressive play calls that put fear in defensive coordinators hearts we need to accept it and commit to running the ball. When you watch payton call plays it's like he wants to commit to the run but the first time there is a hiccup with the run game he just completely abandons it.

To be honest, I would love to see our team go no huddle and mix the pass with the run. Brees is smart enough to have sustained success doing this instead of waiting on Payton to perform a dozen substitutions before running a play for zero yards.

And who was calling the plays in 2011?

I like you, jeanpierre, but I don't see why you consider the early 6-3 lead to be a sign that the running game was effective.

We got two field goals in spite of poor rushing numbers, early, and also settled for said field goals in part because we tried to run the ball once we got into the redzone. Then, our defense completely collapsed. There is no way they had any chance of competing (not that they did, anyway) with the Vikings, at that point, by taking 7-8 minutes to methodically sludge their way down the field.

I would love to be able to run the ball, and think it is very important, even in today's game. But if it's not there, it's not there. We needed to force the issue with some downfield throws, much earlier in the game when it was apparent we could neither run nor stop anybody, but instead we stayed predictable and conservative, with the short passing game, until it was too late.

Think back to this statement by Sean Payton: "The only reason Mark Ingram wouldn't be rookie of the year is me"
