Scouts believe Vander Esch is the player people are sleeping on at the linebacker position, as many have compared him to former NFL star Brian Urlacher -- another Mountain West product. There is a belief Vander Esch could end up sliding into the bottom half of Round 1. As we reported back in November, the Week 11 riser was described by many in the scouting community as a special player at the next level.

I really did not expect him to come out. Can not wait to see his 40, shuttle and cone. they list him as a 4.79 guy. I swear he does not play at that speed. Seems faster or just really quick reacting with excellent instincts. maybe both

This is exactly why I say Saints scouts have got to do more than weight everything at the combine; extremely important the combine is, but how FAST they play most important...

But you nailed the right question - How fast does the guy play?

Now this guy falls to us, as bad as I think we need a quarterback, this would be the pick for us...

He reads fast, He reacts fast, He just plain plays fast...

I don't know how well he'll transition to the NFL but he's a monster in the Mountain West. He takes over games.
