Draft Tidbits

From gbnreport.com:

MIAMI'S ANTREL ROLLE... there are a few teams that feel that Rolle could be an elite free safety, but will struggle in certain defensive schemes if left at cornerback

OKLAHOMA senior offensive tackle JAMAAL BROWN, who is listed as high as #2 on some boards at his position, has also drawn some added attention by teams that are researching his medical records to be sure they are confident in his durability and injury history... while some feel he could develop into a dominating right tackle... there are others that grade him somewhat lower based on durability/injury/strength questions.

TEXAS senior outside linebacker DERRICK JOHNSON, who is considered a sure-fire Top-10 choice by most outlets, does not get the same full ringing endorsement by all 32 NFL teams... "(I'm) still waiting to see him get off a block on these (college) tapes", said one position coach... "If you take away those ESPN highlights than there is very little else to see in terms of big plays out of this guy (Johnson)", explained one area scout... so while there is still a high percentage of teams that have him rated highly... a small minority does not even consider him a first round prospect.

CONNECTICUT senior wide receiver/return man MATT CUTAIA has received additional attention from both Green Bay and New Orleans since running sub-4.4 40-times (4.36/4.39) at the school's second Pro Day.

DELAWARE senior defensive lineman CHRIS MOONEY, who is capable of playing DE or adding weight and moving inside to DT, has been receiving additional attention from both NY Giants and New Orleans... will not be surprising to see him taken in the late rounds by one of several suitors.

LINDENWOOD, MO/MEMPHIS senior running back DERRON PARQUET has had at least one private visit since his recent Pro Day workout, which was done in the New Orleans area... he has received additional attention from New Orleans, NY Giants and San Francisco among others.

NORTHERN ILLINOIS senior wide receiver/return man DAN SHELDON ran 3.86 short shuttle... 6.85 three-cone... 34.5" vertical... 9'8" broad jump... has previously been timed at between 4.42 and 4.45... weighed in at 5085, 176 pounds... senior tight end BRAD CIESLAK ran 4.13 short shuttle... 7.12 three-cone... 28" vertical... 8'9" broad jump... weighs 6036, 262 pounds... previously ran between 4.92 and 4.98 in the 40 and 23 reps of 225 pounds at the school's first Pro Day (March 4th), which was attended by Indianapolis and New Orleans... both of those two teams, as well as Chicago and Jacksonville have shown additional interest in him

NOTRE DAME senior defensive tackle GREG PAULY has received additional interest from Green Bay, New Orleans and San Francisco

SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI senior defensive tackle CHAD RUFFIN has drawn additional attention from Indianapolis, Jacksonville, New Orleans and Washington... ran between 5.00 and 5.08 in the 40... 4.38 short shuttle... 30.5" vertical... 8'8" broad jump... and also did 34 reps of 225 pounds at his Pro Day... also did a full positional workout in the afternoon that day.

we were just discussing this-where would he rank at safety?

either it\'s a big smokescreen or this guy is really overhyped..

I would not be suprised to see at least one dt taken by new orleans come draft day.

here is something else I found.

Sleeper on the radar
The biggest sleeper of the entire NFL Draft 2005 is defensive lineman Marcus White of Murray State. We ranked him the #10 defensive end in this draft class in March when no other publication or website had him in the Top 50 prospects at the position. Those same mysterious web sites now have him in the top 20 players or higher at the position three weeks later. It reflects the nonsense of the internet and the amateurs in the media today as sports experts not to mention the lack of professionalism, integrity and honesty.
The athletic senior defender has been a dominant performer n the OVC over his short two year career with the Racers. Marcus is a huge athletic defender who has the combination of agility, quickness and power to become an NFL starting lineman. He is a very good athlete who shows an explosive burst on the snap and the upfield speed to get around the corner. He competes hard and shows a good first step that allows him to flash quickness up the field with the power to fight through the double team. As a senior, he played in 11 games with 39 tackles, 8 TFL, 3 sacks, 3 PBU, 1 FR and 3 FF in a very strong performance. He failed to duplicate his outstanding junior campaign, though he was double teamed often and dealt with a minor injury. He has fine instincts and good ball awareness that allows him to diagnose, find the ball and run hard to finish with strong tackling. As a junior, he was a totally dominant defender in the OVC with 41 tackles, 18.5 TFL, 9 sacks, 2 FF and 1 FR, earning 1st team conference honors. It was his first performance at the Division I-AA level after two seasons at Auburn where he played as a true freshman in the ’01 season. He is a huge athlete with long arms and fine footwork that may allow him to play both inside and outside in both schemes as a pro. He can change directions easily and get up the field with good closing speed to the QB. He uses his strong hands well with pass rushing technique initially and the ability to overpower tackles at the lower level. He can anchor vs. the run at the point of attack and has the power, technique and agility to separate to make the play. He has the balance and power to keep his feet vs. the double team with the leverage to make the play himself. He can stack it up and stretch the play laterally with the speed to make the play away from him and the ability to run hard to the ball when he is freed up. He has some natural pass rush skills with the burst on the snap to gain a fast advantage and the power to bull rush a big offensive tackle. He is more explosive than Packers’ Kenny Peterson is off the edge and also a better and more natural athlete. He is similar to the Saints’ Darren Howard and Texans’ Gary Walker in agility, size and power. All are strongside ends and ‘tweener types with experience both inside and outside. He was a 2nd team USA Today HS All-American as one of the nation’s top 15 linemen. At Auburn, he played in all 10 games as a true freshman, one of only two players to accomplish that feat. His ability to get the edge and flatten out nicely to close on the passer is best utilized on the outside as a strongside end. He has good speed and can pursue from behind and make plays along the line. He is a fine combination of power, speed and toughness to become a major surprise as a pro. He is still raw in some respects but he has enormous upside to be an NFL starter. Incredibly he was not invited to the NFL combine. He runs in the 5.0 flat time with a 35.\" VJ and a 9’ BJ. Major small college sleeper that I am especially high on and one of the best late bargains in this entire draft. Outstanding 2nd day pick with the talent to be a huge surprise and NFL starter in the right setting.

derron parquet is bad news... he was recruited by LSU and even signed with them out of rummel high in metairie, but never seemed to make it to the field.... lots of off the field concerns with him.... all of those other guys from small schools i have to say no thanks to that crap.... give me a player from a big program.... they have the experience of playing against the best athletes in college football... i\'ve really liked that about has-not, he drafts from big schools, although if we never draft another dt from ga. again it\'ll be too soon.

I would rank Antrell Rolle as the second best free safety, behind Brodney Pool of Oklahoma and just ahead of Josh Bullocks of Nebraska. If you consider that Thomas Davis can play both SS and FS, then I put Rolle third behind Davis and Pool. I dont think he fits in as a SS. He would have to add some serious weight and strength to play SS. The top prospects there are Shazor at 228, Donte Nicholson of Oklahoma at 215, Jerome Carter of FSU at 228, and then if you include Thomas Davis at 230. At FS, Rolle would still need to add a little bit of muscle to his frame. He weighs in at 197 and the FS are around 210 to 220 range. I think if Rolle is taught to play within a system and not to jump on every ball that comes his way, then he will make a fine CB. If he cant, then he may need to put on weight and be moved to FS. However, I think it would take too much to move him to SS. SO if the Saints had intentions of moving him, being that we signed Dwight Smith at FS, I would go ahead and draft Thomas Davis.

if rolle moves to fs, he\'ll be an all-pro by his 2nd year in the league... pool will be good, but i doubt he\'d be better than rolle.... rolle looks like a fs to me, but i\'ve been wrong before and i\'ll probably be wrong again sometime in the near future....

I like Shazor too. He would make a better LB than SS.IMO

FireVenturi:

Check out gbnreport.com and draftshowcase.com. Both of them have awesome information about the draft. Most of the time I just filter out the information on the Saints and post it here.
