Not really up to Brees. If Payton wants to start grooming a young QB he will.

No, but why would the Saints choose to move on from him if he looks likely to keep performing as the elite QB that he is for the foreseeable future?

I can see your point if he was struggling and clearly on a major decline, but he just set the NFL record for completion percentage and led the team to what could/should have been another appearance in at leas the NFC championship game.

Oh! I see you edited your post during my response.

Yes, I can see him grooming a new QB, but I cannot see Payton selling out the immediate future to do so. Payton knows that the Saints are in a two to three year window with the dynamic young talent and the next few productive years of his Hall of Fame QB's career. I don't see him throwing away vital picks that could be used for pieces needed today for a future QB that he may very likely never even coach.

No I can’t see it really making a whole lot of sense myself. I’m preparing myself for the possible shock though. Payton just seems like the type to go get his guy no matter what.

So we sign Brees to a two year deal, spend a bunch of picks to grab this guy and he sits the bench. Ok. Looking forward to seeing him throw his first pass in 2020.

Payton is just building relationships so he can lure him here after his rookie contract is up. We are straight on QB until then.

Katzenstein says "if he falls." Ha, I hope it is that but know we are considering the dreaded trade up.

BB draft QBs all of the time. You don't think they are not drafting one this year? The Saints will draft a QB this year. We just don't know where in the draft yet.

Kansas City had the same pick as us last year (27) and to trade up to 10 it only cost them #27, #91 and this year’s 1st.

If Payton wants him bad enough and he’s still available at 10 I wouldn’t be surprised if we made that same trade.

If we do that we don't have a pick in the first two rounds to get any other players at defense. I guess the draft does not matter for maintaining a good defense down the road.
